Nigerian filmmaker, Kemi Adetiba recently completed the filming of her upcoming Netflix film, “To Kill A Monkey” (TKAM). The last day of principal photography for the film was on Sunday, October 15, 2023. This marked the end of a 59-day production journey that began on August 7.
In videos posted on her Instagram Stories, Kemi Adetiba expressed her gratitude to the cast and crew who had been part of the film’s production. She referred to them as her “TKAM warriors” who had stood by her through nearly three months of filming. The videos captured the sense of accomplishment as they wrapped up the shooting.
Looking to her crew, she said,
“Ladies and gentlemen, my TKAM warriors, my riders, the guys who have gone to battle with me for almost three months and stood by my side through thick and thin, it’s a motherfucking wrap.”
“To Kill A Monkey” is a crime thriller, and Kemi Adetiba, the writer and director, has collaborated with Remi Adetiba for production, while cinematography is handled by Kabelo.
The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Stella Damasus, Ireti Doyle, Bimbo Akintola, Michael Ejoor, Chidi Mokeme, Bucci Franklin, Sunshine Rosman, Lilian Afegbai, Teniola Aladese, William Benson Chinoyenem, and Damilola Adegite.
While the film’s official synopsis has not been released yet, Remi Adetiba, in a documentary about the production, teased a grand and exciting storyline.
He hinted that if they execute the film at even 70% of what they have in mind, it will be a significant cinematic achievement that surpasses their previous work, “King of Boys,” making it look like a mere stage play by comparison. This tease has generated anticipation among fans of Kemi Adetiba and the talented ensemble of actors involved in the project.
In his words,
“If we execute at even 70% of what we have in mind, it’s gonna make the second KOB look like a stage play, by comparison.”
“TKAM” will be available for streaming on Netflix in early 2024. It’s one of seven Nigerian films Netflix announced in August 2023.
Kemi Adetiba, the filmmaker, has an exclusive deal with Netflix, and “TKAM” is one of the three movies she revealed as part of this agreement. The other two films are “Welcome To The Fourth” and a sequel to “King of Boys”.
