Do You Fill Your Dirty Pot With Water After Cooking? Check This

Do You Fill Your Dirty Pot With Water After Cooking? | Fab.ng

Filling a dirty pot with water right after cooking is a common practice. This might seem like a good idea initially because:

  • Leaving leftover food submerged in water prevents it from drying out.
  • Soaking the pot loosens stuck-on food particles, making cleaning easier later.

However, there’s a downside to this habit. Read on.

While filling a dirty pot with water after cooking seems like a convenient way to prevent food from drying and make cleaning easier, it might actually damage your cookware. Here’s why:

  • Sudden temperature changes can be detrimental: Exposing a hot pot to cold water creates a drastic temperature change, also known as thermal shock. This rapid shift can damage the pot’s surface.

  • Warped base and uneven heating: Over time, this repeated thermal shock can cause the pot’s base to warp or become uneven. Have you noticed your older pots seeming to wobble on the stovetop? This could be due to the habit of pouring cold water into hot pots.

  • Metals expand and contract naturally: When heated, metals like those used in cookware naturally expand slightly. As they cool, they return to their original shape. Rapid cooling with cold water disrupts this natural process.

  • Uneven cooking: A warped or uneven pot base means uneven heat distribution. This can lead to hot spots, causing localised burning or undercooked food in other areas.

Therefore, while soaking dirty pots seems like a time-saving trick, it’s crucial to avoid this habit to prevent damaging your cookware and ensure even cooking in the long run.

Cleaning up after simple meals like tea, juice, or sandwiches is usually a breeze. It might not take much time or effort. However, things become significantly more challenging when dealing with dinner dishes, especially cutlery, plates, and the dreaded greasy frying pan.

Stubborn food residue and caked-on grease can turn washing into a time-consuming chore. While traditional methods involving soaking and vigorous scrubbing are effective, they can be laborious.

Here’s a surprising yet effective solution: coffee grounds!

Coffee grounds act as natural scrubbers: These tiny particles work like gentle brushes, effectively removing stuck-on food remnants.

Natural degreaser: Coffee grounds also possess natural degreasing properties, making it easier to eliminate greasy residue from surfaces.

Easy to use:

  • Simply combine coffee grounds with a small amount of water to create a liquid mixture.
  • Add your usual dishwashing liquid to the mix.

Effective and gentle: This cleaning concoction allows you to quickly and efficiently clean cutlery, plates, pots, and even pans.

An added benefit: Unlike harsh scouring pads or stiff brushes that can scratch delicate surfaces, coffee grounds are gentle enough to be used without causing damage to your cookware.
