As the saying goes “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. One of the most common mistakes is by not planning our finances at all. In the absence of a strategy, things go obviously awry .
Our financial future depends on what is going on right now. So instead of spending countless hours watching TV or scrolling through social media feeds,  set aside some time to plan your finances. You need to know where you are to know where you are going.

Spending above your means

Living beyond your means can be easily done because you feel the people around you are doing it, so why can’t you? But have you taken a pause to think, is this outside my budget? It’s so easy to get caught up in what others are doing simply for the sake of it, especially with the trend of social media.
But, unfortunately, the only person you will be fooling is yourself. Living outside of your means will only come back to bite you, usually in the form of credit card debt. There are many ways to stop yourself overspending, but an easy one to always remember in the back of your mind is that things on social media are not always as they seem. Know how much money you have spare to spend a month and limit yourself on spending excessively. Focus on yourself and your own goals.

Not diversifying

This could also mean putting all your eggs in one basket which is usually a wrong thing to do. It is other common financial mistake we make by investing all our money in a single or similar type of investment instruments. Investing all your money in a single business venture is usually not encouraged. So it wise we always diversify and make plans for other investment opportunities.

 Not investing money

Another common financial mistake is to not make timely investments. It is important to know the risks involved. If you do not get your money working for you in the markets or through other income-producing investments, you cannot stop working – ever. Making monthly contributions to designated retirement accounts is essential for a comfortable retirement.
Take advantage of tax-deferred retirement accounts and/or your employer-sponsored plan. Understand the time your investments will have to grow and how much risk you can tolerate. Consult a qualified financial advisor to match this with your goals if possible.

“I Do Not Come to You by Chance” Film Adaptation – Everything You Should Know

Ishaya Bako, the director of “The Royal Hibiscus Hotel” and “Road To Yesterday,” will direct the film adaptation of Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani‘s award-winning 2009 novel “I Do Not Come to You by Chance.

Below is everything you should know about the adaptation.

 

  • The film is set to star Paul Nnadiekwe, who makes his debut appearance on the big screen, alongside Blossom Chukwujekwu. Joining them are Jennifer Eliogu, Sambasa Nberibe, and Beverly Osu. It follows a struggling Nigerian graduate whose seemingly sole option involves assisting his dubious uncle’s fraudulent email scam.

 

  • The film presents its story in both English and Igbo, with Femi Awojide taking on the role of Director of Photography.

Speaking on the Centrepiece program, Nataleah Hunter-Young, the TIFF International Programmer for Africa and Arab West Asia, said,

“It’s been an extraordinary year for African cinemas on the international festival circuit, and that continues to be reflected in this year’s exciting line-up of 9 African titles (8 features and 1 short) representing 9 different countries, more so when you include the directors of African descent living and working in the diaspora (Ladj Ly, Noura El Hourch, Mehdi Fikri, Sally El Hosaini).”
