‘My wife beats me at will’ – Divorce seeking husband tells court

A retiree, Taofeek Giwa, on Friday prayed an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi-Ibadan, to dissolve the seven-year-old marriage with Abiodun Omotayo, on the grounds that the respondent beats him at will.

Giwa, who recently retired from the Nigerian Prisons Service, on June 9, filed a suit, seeking dissolution of the marriage.

In his testimony, the petitioner said Omotayo had turned him into a punching bag and that she constantly beats him.

According to Giwa, the defendant always used the advantage of her huge stature to oppress and treat him as inferior to her.

‘She beats me on any slight provocation, I dare not correct her mistakes.

‘My lord, the worst she did recently was that she poisoned my meal in an attempt to kill me and I am not ready to die now.

‘I plead with the court to separate us to avoid untimely death so that I can take care of my children and enjoy the fruits of my labour.

‘This is because I just retired from active service to my country and I want to enjoy the fruit of my labour.’ Giwa said.

Omotayo in her defence, denied all the allegations, but told the court that the petitioner was the one who used to pursue her with machete.

She agreed with the divorce request, saying she was tired of living with the plaintiff because of his adulterous life.

She, however, prayed the court to grant him custody of the only child of the marriage for proper upbringing.

President of the court, Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the marriage and gave the custody of the only child to the respondent.

Balogun further ordered the plaintiff to pay N3,000 monthly allowance to the defendant for the maintenance of the child.

He appealed to both parties to maintain peace and jointly take care of the only child of the marriage.

“The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3” generated ₦10 million in voucher sales within its first two days of release.

The filmmakers introduced this innovative voucher system before the movie’s premiere, enabling audiences to secure their tickets in advance.

The movie is currently screening in theaters across the country. In this film, director Omoni Oboli presents a satirical story that follows a female local government chairperson. The protagonist navigates through complex challenges as she attempts to balance her new position of authority with her personal life struggles.

Furthermore, the director has assembled a powerful cast of Nigerian actresses for this third installment. Notably, Chioma Akpotha, Uche Jombo, and Omoni Oboli lead the talented ensemble.

Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has announced she will release her new single, ‘Forgiveness,’ on Friday, October 18, 2024. Tiwa shared a short video on her Instagram page, where fans can watch her dancing to the upcoming record.

In her caption, she confirmed the release date and encouraged her listeners to await the single’s debut eagerly.

“Oct 18th #ForGiveness Weekend wey go sweet, na from Thursday we go know,” it reads.

Tiwa Savage teased her fans by posting a preview of the record on her Instagram page on October 7, 2024.

Earlier in May 2024, the versatile artist demonstrated her multi-faceted talent when she released the soundtrack album for her debut feature film, “Water & Garri“. Moreover, she collaborated with industry heavyweights, including Grammy nominees Olamide and Ayra Starr, who made notable guest appearances on the album.

Subsequently, in July 2024, Tiwa unveiled the music video for “Commona”, which featured collaborations with Olamide and Mystro Sugar. Furthermore, Jyde Ajala directed this visual masterpiece, which skillfully incorporated scenes from the Prime original film.

Later, in September 2024, she released another significant project – the music video for “One Heart (Can Change The World)”. Multiple award-winning songwriter Diane Warren penned this impactful song, which served as the official soundtrack for the environmentally conscious animated film, “Ozi: Voice of The Forest”.

Specifically, ‘Wave,’ a standout track from Asake’s third album ‘Lungu Boy,’ now features alongside songs from prominent American artists such as Key Glock and Lil Pete on the game’s soundtrack.

Notably, Asake stands as the only Afrobeats artist on this album, marking a significant continuation of Afrobeats’ presence in the game series. Previously, Adekunle Gold’s ‘Party No Dey Stop,’ featuring Zinoleesky, appeared in the NBA 2K24 soundtrack album.
