Timini Egbuson isn’t the only big name you’ll see in “Shina.”

Award-winning actress Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman joins him in a leading role. The film is also stacked with other talented Nigerian actors, including Akin Lewis, Segun Arinze, and Aleiru Idowukeji. Feyifunmi Oginni is the mind behind the production, ensuring a high-quality experience.

Before “Shina” hit Netflix, Timini Egbuson, the movie’s lead actor and executive producer, buzzed with anticipation. He hinted at an incredible experience, saying,

According to the website FilmFreeWay, the co-director, Ike-Okoro, “made her directorial debut as a guest director on the web series When Are We Getting Married in 2021. In early 2022, she directed a tactical ad for SGBV targeted at women facing issues of domestic violence.”

The other director, Muyiwa Adesokun, is also a writer. In 2021, he published a collection of poems titled ‘The Taxi Driver and Other Poems’.

“The Smart Money Woman” dazzled Lagos last night with its second season premiere, consequently drawing stars and industry leaders to an exclusive celebration.

Moreover, adapted from Arese Ugwu’s sequel “The Smart Money Tribe,” the show welcomes back beloved characters Zuri, Ladun, Tami, Adesuwa, and Lara. Subsequently, fans gathered to honour both the series and its creator in an intimate setting.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s entertainment elite rubbed shoulders with the cast and crew at the exclusive venue. Specifically, showrunner Arese Ugwu shared the spotlight with stars Osas Ighodaro, Ini Dima-Okojie, Toni Tones, Eso Dike, and Mimi Onalaja. Additionally, event host and newcomer Nicole Ikot energized the crowd throughout the night.

Notably, fans can stream the new season on YouTube starting October 31, 2024. Previously, the series aired 13 episodes on Africa Magic before. This is before Netflix streamed a condensed 7-episode first season on September 16, 2021.

Idris Elba to relocate to Africa to support its film industry | fab.ng

British actor, Idris Elba has revealed his plans to relocate to Africa within the next decade. Motivated by a desire to contribute to the continent’s film industry, Elba expressed his intentions at a film industry event in Ghana. Interestingly, Elba has Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean heritage.

As part of his vision to bolster African filmmaking, Elba teased upcoming projects. This involves the establishment of film studios in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Accra, Ghana.

“I would certainly consider settling down here; not even consider, it’s going to happen, I think I’ll move in the next five, 10 years, God willing. I’m here to bolster the film industry – that is a 10-year process – I won’t be able to do that from overseas. I need to be in-country, on the continent,” he said.

Idris Elba had previously hinted at his involvement in a TV series adaptation. Consequently, the series is Chinua Achebe’s acclaimed novel, Things Fall Apart. Elba expressed his intention to portray the main character, Okonkwo.

While this announcement sparked concerns among Nigerians, Elba emphasized his commitment. He would use his platform to advance the African film industry.

“I’m here to bolster the film industry—that is a 10-year process. I won’t be able to do that from overseas. I need to be in-country, on the continent,” he said.

He emphasized that staying in one location would limit his freedom. So, he refuses to confine to a single place.

“I’m going to live in Accra, I’m going to live in Freetown Sierra Leone’s capital, I’m going to live in Zanzibar. I’m going to try and go where they’re telling stories – that’s really important,” he added.

Finally, he concluded by emphasising the need to correct wrong narratives about Africa held by non-Africans.

“If you watch any film or anything that has got to do with Africa, all you’re going to see is trauma, how we were slaves, how we were colonised, how it’s just war and when you come to Africa, you will realise that it’s not true. So, it’s really important that we own those stories of our tradition, of our culture, of our languages, of the differences between one language and another. The world doesn’t know that,” he concluded.
