The Oscar nominations for 2024 were announced by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid from the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre, and this year’s slate is a testament to the diverse voices and boundless creativity thriving in Hollywood, with unexpected contenders emerging alongside established favourites.
One would expect Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Holdovers, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, with their grandeur and success, to be among the nominees, especially since these movies bagged major wins at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. They also received massive support from tonnes of actors, producers, and directors all over Hollywood who play an important role in the Academy’s voting body.

“Oppenheimer” bagged the most, earning 13 Oscar nominations, followed closely behind by “Poor Things” with 11 nominations. “Barbie,” last year’s biggest box office hit, bagged eight nominations. The 2024 Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. PT in Los Angeles.
