7 Things To Know About Excessive Sweating

7 Things To Know About Excessive Sweating | Fab.ng

Sweating is a normal response to heat or anxiety, but some people sweat excessively, causing stains and affecting social relationships.

This may be due to a medical condition called hyperhidrosis, which affects almost 4.8% of the population, or 15.3 million Americans. Hyperhidrosis is abnormally excessive sweating that is not necessarily related to heat or exercise and can cause stains on shirts and body odours. It can also result in embarrassment and social anxiety.

Primary focal hyperhidrosis is the most common type, causing overactive nerves that trigger sweat glands, while secondary hyperhidrosis is a more serious form, signalling a dysfunction of the central or peripheral nervous system.

This type of sweating is primarily caused by medical conditions, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart attack
  • Infections
  • Low blood sugar
  • Menopausal hot flashes
  • Nervous system disorders
  • Some types of cancer
  • Thyroid problems

Excessive sweating is not dangerous, but it can be unpleasant and make you feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Hyperhidrosis can be treated medically, but you must first see your primary care physician.

A study indicated that having primary hyperhidrosis increased the incidence of skin infections, including bacterial and fungal ones. So, if your excessive sweating appears to be too much, consult a doctor to get it under control and avoid infection.

Here are seven things to know about excessive sweating, including how to control it, where it’s most common, and identifying indicators of hyperhidrosis.

1. Armpit sweat makes it impossible to keep clothes dry

Axillary hyperhidrosis is a condition characterised by excessive underarm sweating. The way you dress can indicate a sweaty armpit condition.

If you avoid wearing light- or bright-coloured clothes because you’re scared the stains from your underarm sweating will be too visible, or if you avoid delicate fabrics like silk because you’re afraid they’ll be destroyed, you’re probably suffering from excessive armpit perspiration.

Men with underarm hyperhidrosis are also more likely to keep their suit jackets on, even when it’s warm, out of fear that others will see the shirt stains around their sweaty armpits.

2. Deodorants don’t do enough to block armpit sweat

7 Things To Know About Excessive Sweating | Fab.ng

Consult your doctor to find out why you sweat so much. There are some good answers. If you have very sweaty armpits, standard over-the-counter deodorants will not work, no matter how frequently you use them.

Antiperspirants with a high concentration of aluminium chloride can block sweat glands; however, this may not always be effective. To prevent underarm sweat, ask your doctor for a prescription-strength antiperspirant.

Antiperspirants can be effective for certain individuals who sweat excessively, but additional treatment may be required in some cases.

3. You ruminate about sweaty armpits

7 Things To Know About Excessive Sweating | Fab.ng

When you have underarm hyperhidrosis, it can be difficult to concentrate on anything else. You’re concerned that people will notice that your clothing is constantly damp.

You may get self-conscious and start to retreat, avoiding physical contact with others. You may even be hesitant to dance at parties or work out at the gym for fear that it would aggravate your armpit sweating.

4. Hyperhidrosis has nothing to do with good hygiene

There is no link between underarm hyperhidrosis and hygiene. Nonetheless, those with hyperhidrosis, particularly armpit perspiration, find that their shirts soak through quickly after they are put on, so they shower frequently and change their clothes multiple times per day.

This may keep you dry briefly, but if you have hyperhidrosis, bathing frequently, even with strong soaps and shower gels, will not solve the problem. You should consult a doctor or dermatologist for hyperhidrosis treatment.

5. Medical Management can help you cope with symptoms of excessive sweating

Sweating excessively is neither harmful nor life-threatening, but it can be detrimental if it causes you to withdraw and disturbs your regular routines. If you notice any of these hyperhidrosis symptoms, such as sweaty armpits, soaked hands, or sloshy shoes, consult your doctor.

Popular therapies for excessive sweating include:

  • Prescription antiperspirants, creams, and wipes
  • Botox injections can disrupt nerve signals that cause sweat.
  • Anticholinergics are medications that block the body’s sweat glands.
  • Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) is a common surgical treatment.

If your doctor diagnoses hyperhidrosis, you’ll probably start with prescription antiperspirants, lotions, or even pills before considering Botox injections or other treatments. In the most serious cases, more permanent remedies, such as surgery, may be helpful.

6. Profusely sweaty hands are palmar hyperhidrosis

Individuals with underarm hyperhidrosis may have excessive sweating in other places of the body, including the hands, feet, and groyne, where sweat glands are concentrated.

Palmar hyperhidrosis refers to hyperhidrosis of the palms. Because your hands are slippery, you may have difficulty writing with a pen or pencil, driving a car, or typing on a computer keyboard.

7. You slosh in your sweaty shoes

Some individuals with excessive armpit perspiration may also experience plantar hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating of the soles of the feet.

When your feet sweat excessively, your socks and shoes become wet, leaving you feeling as if you’ve trodden in puddles. You may feel uncomfortable about removing your shoes and socks in public areas, such as the gym locker room or the shoe store, due to the resulting stench.

You may have removed sandals from your clothing list because your feet are too slippery, and going barefoot might be difficult when you leave damp tracks behind.

How Social Media Apps Can Keep You Addicted

Published

How Social Media Apps Keep You Addicted | Fab.ng

Many of us have experienced the struggle of trying to disconnect from our phones, especially from social media apps, only to find ourselves pulled back in constantly. We might mindlessly switch between different apps, scroll through social media feeds, and engage in online discussions.

This cycle can consume our time, leaving us feeling like we’ve spent an entire day glued to the screen, from waking up to falling asleep.

But why does this happen? What makes us crave the latest online trends and conversations, constantly seeking updates and engaging in them?

Social media platforms employ clever systems called algorithms to keep users engaged and coming back for more. These algorithms are like invisible analysts, studying the way you use the platform. They pay close attention to your actions, such as the things you like, comment on, share, and how long you spend looking at specific posts.

Based on this information, the algorithms create a personalised feed just for you. They organise the content you see in a way that they think will be most interesting to you, keeping you scrolling and interacting. This is all done with one main goal: to keep you using the platform as much as possible.

The longer you stay engaged, the more opportunities there are for you to see advertisements and interact with content that benefits the platform. As you continue to use the platform and interact with content, the algorithms learn even more about your preferences, constantly refining your personalised feed to keep you hooked.

How Social Media Apps Keep You Addicted | Fab.ng

Our brains and how they work are a big reason why social media is so addictive, and it’s hard to put our phones down.

Think of social media like a surprise box. You never know what you’re going to find when you open it. Maybe you’ll see funny pictures, interesting news, or a message from a friend.

This mystery is part of what makes social media so addictive. The surprise keeps you coming back for more, even if you don’t know what you’ll get.

Some apps, like Instagram, have a feature called “infinite scrolling.” This means that as you scroll down, new content automatically loads onto your screen, so you never reach the end. There’s always something new to see, and you can keep scrolling for as long as you want.

It’s like having an endless stream of information and entertainment at your fingertips. Unlike other things you might look at, like a book or a TV show, social media doesn’t have a natural stopping point. You’re in control of how much time you spend scrolling and what content you choose to see.

When you get a notification or a “like” on your social media post, your brain releases a chemical called dopamine that makes you feel good. This good feeling makes you want to keep using social media to get more of that feeling. This cycle can lead to social media addiction.

How Social Media Apps Keep You Addicted | Fab.ng

Social media companies design their apps to keep you hooked using a theory called the “Hooked Model.” This model says that there are four steps that keep users engaged:

  • Trigger: Something happens (like a notification) that makes you want to check your phone.
  • Action: You open the app and start looking at content.
  • Reward: You get something enjoyable, like seeing a funny video or getting a like on your post. This reward is unpredictable, which keeps you wanting more.
  • Investment: You share something or create content on the app, which makes you feel more invested in using it.

4. The lure of novelty

Human brains naturally crave new things to learn and see. This is why you enjoy exploring new places, trying different foods, and learning new skills. Social media and the internet are like never-ending playgrounds for human brains. They constantly provide you with a fresh flow of information, from funny videos and interesting articles to updates from friends and family.

This constant stream of new content keeps the brain stimulated and wanting to explore more, making it easy to spend a lot of time on these platforms.

5. Social connection

Humans naturally desire connection with others. Social media platforms act like online communities, providing a sense of belonging and connection. They allow you to interact and share with friends and family, no matter how far apart you are.

Additionally, social media can connect you with strangers who share similar interests, creating new friendships and expanding your social circles.

6. Fear of missing out (FOMO)

When you spend time offline, you might worry about missing out on something important, like news, updates, or conversations with friends. This fear of missing out can make you feel anxious and cause you to constantly check your phone to stay “in the loop.”

By being mindful of your phone usage, you can make conscious choices about when and how much you engage with social media.

To look and feel younger isn’t just about ticking off more birthdays; it’s about infusing every year with vibrant life. It’s a continuous adventure where you strike a balance between physical strength, mental clarity, and emotional happiness. This means making deliberate choices that not only bolster your entire well-being but also allow you to age with grace and vitality.

In our frenetic world, where stress and unhealthy habits run rampant, embracing a healthy lifestyle is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Research confirms that adopting healthy habits can not only shield you from chronic diseases and boost your mental well-being, but also extend your lifespan, allowing you to enjoy more fulfilling years.

Remember, there’s no magic formula for healthy living. It’s like tailoring a suit—it needs to be made just for you! So, while we’ll explore some great tips, keep in mind that consistency and personalised strategies are key. Ready to feel and look your best? Let’s dive into five simple ways to weave healthy habits into your everyday life and radiate youthful energy.

1. Eat a Balanced Diet

Balanced Diet: What Is It and How to Achieve It

It’s no secret that what you put on your plate plays a vital role in how you feel and function. In fact, nourishing your body with the right kinds of food is like giving your engine the best possible fuel. It allows you to live life to the fullest. So, what does a powerhouse diet look like? Think of a rainbow-coloured variety of fresh fruits and vegetables bursting with vitamins, minerals, and fibre. Lean proteins like grilled chicken or fish also keep you feeling satisfied and energised, while whole grains provide sustained energy throughout the day.

Don’t forget about antioxidant superheroes like berries, nuts, and leafy greens. These nutritional champions help fight off free radicals that can contribute to ageing and other health concerns, keeping you looking and feeling your best. Remember, healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated. By making smart choices and incorporating these nutritional powerhouses into your diet, you’re investing in your future health and well-being.

2. Stay Hydrated

Study: Staying Hydrated Might Be the Secret to Living Longer

Water is the lifeblood of our bodies, as vital as air itself. Staying adequately hydrated is crucial for maintaining a healthy balance, both inside and out. When we drink enough water, our skin retains its elasticity, our bodies efficiently eliminate waste products, and our digestive system functions smoothly. Aiming for at least eight glasses of water daily is a simple yet essential step towards ensuring your body operates at its peak.

3. Get Regular Exercise

The Most Effective Full-body Workout To Look and Feel Younger — Eat This Not That

Exercise isn’t just good for your body; it’s like a magic potion for staying young at heart! It tones your muscles, leaving you feeling strong and confident, while simultaneously boosting your energy levels like a natural power-up. And the benefits don’t stop there! Exercise is like a magic wand for your overall well-being, promoting a healthy mind and body ready to take on the world! So, lace up your shoes, grab your yoga mat, or pump some iron—your younger self is waiting to be rediscovered!

4. Stress Management

The relentless grip of chronic stress can fast-track the ageing process. Fortunately, simple techniques like meditation, deep breathing, and mindfulness can be your allies in keeping stress at bay and preserving a youthful zest for life. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can effectively hit the brakes on the ageing process and embrace a healthier, more vibrant future.

5. Sleep properly.

To truly look and feel younger, deep, restorative sleep is as essential as air and water. Aim for 7 to 9 peaceful hours each night, granting your body the precious time it needs to mend and revitalise. To drift off seamlessly, establish a calming bedtime ritual that soothes your mind and prepares you for a restful slumber. Remember, prioritising quality sleep is an investment in your overall well-being, empowering you to face each day with renewed energy and a refreshed spirit.

Taking care of yourself isn’t just about gym memberships and green juices; it’s a journey that embraces your whole being. True health is a mosaic, crafted from pieces of physical well-being, mental clarity, and emotional balance. By weaving these five simple practices into your daily life, you can unlock a younger-feeling version of yourself.

5 Mistakes You Make When Trying To Lose Belly Fat

5 Mistakes You Make When Trying To Lose Belly Fat | Fab.ng

Trying to lose unwanted belly fat can feel like scaling Mount Everest in stilettos—gloomy, challenging, and seemingly impossible. We’ve all been there, trying countless fad diets and scouring the internet for magic solutions. But sometimes, the biggest roadblocks to success are hidden in the seemingly harmless choices we make every day. This post is here to equip you with the knowledge to not only conquer your core but also outsmart the five most common mistakes that trip up even the most determined individuals.

Overreliance on Abdominal Crunches

Overreliance on Abdominal Crunches

While strengthening your core with exercises like crunches is important, it’s a common misconception that these exercises alone will melt away belly fat. Unfortunately, targeting specific areas for fat loss isn’t possible. For true belly-busting success, you need a well-rounded workout plan that incorporates both cardio and full-body strength training. Think of it like this: The cardio acts like a furnace, burning calories throughout your entire body. Strength training, on the other hand, builds muscle, which acts as a metabolic powerhouse, even when you’re at rest. By combining these two elements, you create a one-two punch for shedding fat and achieving a healthier, more toned physique.

Not Getting Enough Sleep

Not Getting Enough Sleep.

Catching those Zzz’s isn’t just about feeling refreshed in the morning; it plays a crucial role in your efforts to lose belly fat! When we skimp on sleep, our body’s delicate hormonal balance gets thrown out of whack. This can lead to intense cravings for unhealthy foods and a sluggish metabolism, making it harder to shed those unwanted pounds.

By aiming for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, you’re setting yourself up for success. Not only will you find it easier to resist tempting treats, but your body will also be more efficient at burning fat. Think of it as a magic potion for your weight loss goals. And the benefits go beyond just the scale. When you’re well rested, you radiate a healthy glow from the inside out. Your skin becomes clearer, your complexion more vibrant, and you’ll feel energised to tackle your day with confidence. So, make sleep a priority in your weight-loss journey.

Skipping Meals

Many people believe that skipping meals is a shortcut to a thinner figure. However, this thinking is quite misleading and can actually hinder your weight loss journey. When you deprive your body of regular fuel, it enters a “survival mode,” where it slows down its metabolism and clings to every calorie as if it’s the last. Instead, aim to nourish your body with smaller, well-rounded meals spaced throughout the day. This keeps your metabolism humming along and provides a steady stream of energy to power your daily activities.

Stress

5 Mistakes You Make When Trying To Lose Belly Fat

Feeling overwhelmed and stressed? It might be doing more than dampening your spirits! Chronic stress can actually crank up your production of a hormone called cortisol, which can act like a little storage locker for fat, especially around your belly. But don’t fret! By incorporating stress-busting techniques like meditation, yoga, or even some deep breathing exercises into your daily routine, you can help keep cortisol levels in check and support your weight loss journey. So, take a deep breath, relax those shoulders, and let your body know it’s time to prioritise both physical and mental well-being!

Consuming Sugar

5 Mistakes You Make When Trying To Lose Belly Fat

Ever feel like your clothes are getting a little snug around the middle? You’re not alone! Sneaky sugars hiding in processed foods and drinks can be the culprit, leading to unwanted belly fat. But fear not, there’s a simple solution!

Become a label detective! Get in the habit of reading food labels and keep an eye out for “added sugars.” These sneaky sugars add unwanted calories without any real nutritional value. Ditch the sugary drinks and quench your thirst with water instead. Your body will thank you!

Instead of processed foods, fill your plate with whole, unprocessed goodies. Think fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and lean protein. These powerhouses pack a punch of nutrients that keep you feeling full and energised.

Remember, small changes make a big difference. By swapping out sugary treats for healthier options, you’ll lose belly fat, get a trimmer tummy, and have a happier, healthier you.
