The Recording Academy, responsible for the GRAMMYs, unequivocally stated that there is no Afrobeats star or African artist currently “bigger” than Nigerian singer, Burna Boy.
This declaration was made in a statement on their website congratulating Burna Boy and other nominees in the newly established Best African Music Performance category for the 2024 GRAMMYs.
The Academy emphasized that, regardless of the winner in the Best African Music Performance category, it will mark a historic moment. They specifically highlighted Burna Boy’s remarkable achievements, noting that he is “firmly in his imperial era“.
The singer has collaborated with global icons such as Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, and his latest album, “I Told Them…“, achieved his first UK No. 1, featuring contributions from 21 Savage, J. Cole, RZA, and GZA.
