Nigerian Afrobeat sensations, Teni and Odumodublvck, have dominated the centre stage in the Barcelona spotlight as the Spanish La Liga giants continue to make waves on social media. Their collaboration with these Nigerian stars has drawn a lot of attention.
Barcelona recently teamed up with two prominent Nigerian artists, Odumodublvck (also known as Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu) and Teni The Entertainer (the professional name of Teniola Apata), just ahead of their second Champions League group match against Porto.
The collaboration was celebrated with Teni and Odumodublvck wearing Barcelona jerseys in promotional content shared across all social media platforms as a way to honour the partnership.
The partnership didn’t just involve these two artists. It also involved other people of African origin; South African singer-songwriter, Paballo Basetsana Mothapo (better known by the stage name Pabi Cooper) and musician Shiko Matlebjane (also known as Ch’cco) also took part in the campaign. The joint endeavour was on display in Times Square in New York, USA.
The Spotify playlist “Barca African Connect,” which has 51 tracks largely contributed by African artists and offers a broad blend of international music, notably featuring all four of these performers.
The relationship between Nigerian Afrobeat musicians and Barcelona extends beyond this latest project. At the AfroNation event in Portugal, Ansu Fati, a top player on loan from Barcelona, collaborated with Nigerian Afrobeat superstars, Davido and Burna Boy, showcasing the club’s fondness for working with Nigerian artists. This trend continued from the previous season when Barcelona invited Nigerian artist, Rema (Divine Ikubor) to one of their training sessions.
It is very much anticipated that Barcelona will prolong its connection with Nigerian Afrobeat singers as their partnership with Spotify develops, adding to the expanding cultural interaction between the football team and the thriving Nigerian music industry.
