Pete Edochie Bags 2 Honorary Doctorate Degrees

Renowned Nigerian actor, Pete Edochie, has recently received well-deserved recognition and awards for his exceptional talent and significant contributions to the entertainment industry. In a viral video shared via Twitter, Edochie can be seen adorned in ceremonial attire as representatives from ISTM University in Togo present him with honours at his home. The awards bestowed upon him include a Doctorate in Literature, a Doctorate in Arts, and a lifetime achievement award.

The representatives commended Edochie for his pioneering work and acknowledged him as a role model for younger actors to emulate. Expressing their gratitude, they awarded him the prestigious titles on behalf of ISTM Management. Edochie graciously accepted the awards and was showered with praise for his incredible accomplishments and impact on the arts. He humbly extended his thanks to the representatives for this recognition.

Pete Edochie hails from Enugu State, Nigeria, and pursued his primary and secondary education in Northern Nigeria. After gaining some work experience, he pursued further education in journalism and television at the School of Journalism and Television in London. Edochie’s acting career took off when he starred in The Village Masquerade, a popular Nigerian television drama series produced by the Eastern Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation.

However, it was his portrayal of Okonkwo in the 1987 film adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s renowned novel, Things Fall Apart, that propelled him to great heights of fame in Nigeria’s entertainment sector. Veteran Nollywood actor Bob Manuel Udokwu shared his insights on the casting of British actor Idris Elba as Okonkwo in the upcoming adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel, Things Fall Apart.

During his appearance on The Morning Brief, Udokwu participated in a dynamic discussion about the current state of Nollywood and the significance of collaboration within the film industry.

When asked about the missing element in Nigeria’s film sector, Udokwu responded,

“Collaboration. I said this years ago that Nollywood has come of age; now we don’t have to do much to prove to the world that we have world-class talent here.”

Udokwu directly addressed Elba’s casting as Okonkwo. Although he expressed respect for the British actor’s talent, he firmly stated his position. Subsequently, he emphasized that numerous capable Nigerian actors could effectively portray the role.

Finally, Udokwu pointed out that these local talents deserve consideration for such significant cultural roles. Moreover, he suggested that the casting choice overlooks the wealth of acting experience available within Nigeria’s borders.

He explained,

“There’s this conversation about Idris Elba being cast as Okonkwo in the Hollywood make of Things Fall Apart and I don’t have anything against that as an actor but I think that we have people who are top-class actors in Nigeria who can play that role better knowing where that story is coming from but that’s another story for another day.”

Bob Manuel Udokwu emphasized the importance of collaboration among different film industries, noting that this trend is already emerging.

“What Nollywood needs now is collaboration and it’s beginning to happen. I happen to be part of another production that involves to major actors in India and another Hollywood-based actress. We need to have more collaborations with our counterparts in Europe and north America and it’s happening gradually. The bundle of talents we have in Nigeria is awesome,” he concluded.

Stella’s detailed account came through a recent interview where she paints a picture of a three-year romantic relationship with the “City Boys” hitmaker. She describes how their relationship progressed to the point of pregnancy, emphasizing Burna Boy’s initial commitment to support their unborn child. According to her narrative, the singer’s attitude dramatically shifted, leading to his complete withdrawal from the situation.

The woman’s story takes an even darker turn as she recounts a series of unfortunate events. She describes a harrowing break-in at her residence, though she doesn’t directly attribute it to the singer. The accumulated stress from these circumstances, she claims, ultimately resulted in a devastating miscarriage of their unborn child.

Burna Boy responded to these allegations swiftly and unequivocally.

The African Giant, known for his unapologetic demeanour, categorically dismisses Stella’s claims. In stark contrast to her portrayal of their relationship, he characterizes her as a sex worker, specifically stating that he paid her 20,000 naira for her services.

The Grammy winner further discredits her by revealing that she belongs to a group of individuals who have previously made unfounded claims about his potency.

“Meanwhile this na of the first people wey call me impotent o. And Na 20k be her money that year normally of which I give am o. Abeg enter this comment section if you know this girl that year and confirm if I dey lie say na N20k be her money,” he wrote in a now-deleted post on his X page.

On October 9, 2024, this successful businesswoman took to Instagram to address her female fans, followers, and women in general. She emphasized the importance of exercising discretion and maintaining privacy within female friendships.

She began,

“I’ve got something very important to say but ladies, I’m going to eat you guys up on this video because it’s very important, so follow me as I go. My best friend contract is with you and I, not you plus your significant other. It breaks my heart to see many female friendships hit the rocks because of this mistake that a lot of us women make.”

“If your best friend confides in you about something that she’s going through or something that is happening in her life, maybe about guys, your husband or boyfriend should not be privy to that information. Why? Because he’s not her best friend,” she added.

She highlighted that when a friend shares personal struggles, such as relationship problems or life challenges, those details should be kept confidential.

Makinwa concluded,

“Sometimes you wonder why your man would have an issue when you tell him you’re going to hang out with a friend; it’s the things you tell him! The same way you protect your man and don’t air his dirty laundry to me is the same way you shouldn’t do me.”
