Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has declared his intention to come back to Nigeria and cooperate with the police in their ongoing investigation into the death of his former protege, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
After the death of Mohbad, Naira Marley faced intense public scrutiny for several weeks. On the evening of September 26, 2023, he took to his Instagram account to release an official statement. In this statement, he emphasized that he is not evading authorities and pledged to provide his own account of the events once he returns.
Within his statement, Naira Marley acknowledged the negative portrayal of his character following Mohbad’s death and emphasized that he played no role in the death of the singer. He also mentioned that he had been out of the country for over a week before Mohbad’s tragic passing.
Naira Marley’s statement read,
“I have been out of the country since the 31st of August 2023 and I’m here to return in light of the police investigation I am making arrangements to return to the country to assist the investigation and give my version of events, I am fully cooperating with the police team and I certainly have no reason to be a fugitive when I have no hand in his death.”
In addition, he reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the truth, emphasizing that he is wholeheartedly collaborating with the authorities to solve the case. He substantiated his cooperation with compelling evidence aimed at vindicating his reputation.
In his statement, Naira Marley further stated that he bore no responsibility for the singer’s tragic death in any manner, shape, or form.
He said,
“My lawyers are already in touch with the police and government agencies and will support you in every way necessary without a doubt I will honour his memory and I promise to do right by him and his family. I am dedicated to proving my innocence and I am cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with sufficient evidence.”
Naira Marley went on to clarify that he had never engaged in any confrontations or harassment directed towards Mohbad during the artist’s tenure with his label, nor did he do so afterwards. He emphatically emphasized that he had never authorized or instructed anyone to intimidate or cause harm to the late singer while he was alive.
Mohbad had been a part of Naira Marley’s record label until September 2022. Following his unfortunate passing on September 12, 2023, there were speculations and allegations connecting Naira Marley, his associate, Sammy Larry, and his label to the reported harassment and death of Mohbad. But now, Naira Marley has distanced himself from these claims.
