In recognition of his achievements, the city of Boston, Massachusetts, has officially designated March 2nd as “Burna Boy Day” to honor the renowned Nigerian singer. This special day was officially declared in a document signed by Councillor Ruthzee Louijeune of the Boston City Council.

To recognize his exceptional performances and advocacy work, Burna Boy has been honored by the city of Boston. This recognition is a testament to Boston’s commitment to celebrating diversity and culture, as evidenced by its range of cultural events, festivals, and community initiatives that showcase the city’s multicultural landscape.

The document further states that Burna Boy’s legacy serves as a reminder of the possibility and encourages the city to continue amplifying voices that have long been silenced or overlooked. In light of this, March 2, 2024, has been designated as Burna Boy’s Day in the City of Boston.

According to the document, inter alia:

“Whereas, Burna Boy’s legacy serves as a reminder of possibility, reminding us to continue amplifying voices that have long been silenced or overlooked, now, therefore, be it resolved: that March 2, 2024, is designated Burna Boy Day in the City of Boston.”

Burna Boy has held many sold-out shows in Boston since breaking into the international scene in 2018. His music has resonated with audiences across the globe, and he has become a symbol of hope and inspiration for many. The honor bestowed on him by the city of Boston is evidence of the impact of his work and the significance of his legacy.

This Is Why Asake Tattooed His Name On His Neck

This Is Why Asake Tattooed His Name On His Neck | Fab.ng

Afrobeats star Asake recently talked to GQ Magazine about his music career, his rise to fame, and the meaning behind his tattoos. One tattoo that came up was the big “ASAKE” across his neck. Asake explained that he got this tattoo during a time when he felt down and unsure about his future in music. The tattoo served as a reminder to himself and a symbol of his perseverance and determination to make it big.

Asake said, “I was tired; I felt like I don’t want to keep trying.”

Asake explained that the tattoo was a way for him to push himself forward. He felt discouraged about his music career, so he got the tattoo as a symbol of his perseverance and determination to succeed. He worked even harder after that to become the famous singer he is today.

Asake also talked about the challenges of having tattoos in Nigeria. People with tattoos can have a hard time finding jobs because of negative stereotypes.

“In Nigeria, if you have a tattoo on your neck, you can’t work anywhere. I can’t work for any company, I can’t sell anything,” he explained.

Asake says his first tattoo, “Stay Real,” written on his hands, reminds him of his core values and staying true to himself. However, he finds it more difficult to stay grounded since moving to Los Angeles.

“It triggers you to be more than what you are, but I feel like everybody’s going through the same thing in this place. People find it hard to be normal, to be original,” he concluded.

French Canal+ Offers $2.9b To Buy MultiChoice

French Canal+ Offers $2.9b To Buy MultiChoice | Fab.ng

French media giant Canal+ is looking to become a major player in African entertainment. On Monday, April 8, 2024, they offered $2.9 billion to buy the rest of the shares in Multichoice. Multichoice is a South African company that owns popular services like Showmax, DStv, and Africa Magic.

If the deal goes through, Canal+ will take complete ownership of Multichoice. This could have a big impact on the African entertainment landscape. Canal+ is potentially bringing new content and services to the continent.

A combined group would be better positioned to address key structural challenges and opportunities resulting from the progressive digitalisation and globalisation of the media and entertainment sector,” the companies said.

But hold on, it’s not that simple. Canal+ already owned most of Multichoice, but they recently offered to buy the remaining shares for $2.9 billion. This is actually a sweeter deal than their previous offer back in February, which Multichoice’s board rejected because they felt it was too low. This new offer is in cash and works out to $6.73 per share.

Will Multichoice play ball this time? We don’t know yet. Their board will need to review the offer carefully. Even if they agree, there are still hurdles to jump. South African laws require companies to have black ownership and limit foreign media ownership. Canal+ will need to adjust its board to meet these requirements. They’re working on finding local partners to help, and there have even been rumours that a South African billionaire might join the bid to help meet the Black ownership requirement.

One last wrinkle: Multichoice is bigger in English-speaking countries like South Africa and Nigeria, while Canal+ has a stronger presence in French-speaking African nations. If the deal goes through, it could be interesting to see how Canal+ navigates this difference in languages and audiences.

“You Make Yoruba Proverbs Music” – Burna Boy Criticises Brymo

"You Make Yoruba Proverbs Music": Burna Boy To Brymo | Fab.ng

Burna Boy’s comments followed Brymo’s assertion that Burna Boy doesn’t meet his musical standards, made during an appearance on ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’ with Bae U.

Brymo mentioned in the interview that Burna Boy’s diss freestyle wasn’t original as Burna Boy had pre-written the lyrics, and Brymo stated he would never include Burna Boy’s name in his song because he doesn’t hold Burna Boy in high regard.

“Is it (the freestyle) not Burna Boy lyrics? But he would like to know that nothing in this world would make me put his name in my song. He no reach my standard,” Brymo said.

Brymo also claimed that he is the best vocalist on the African continent.

“I’m not proud enough. I’m probably the finest vocalist on the continent. Better than anybody. I’m not thinking. I know this,” he boasted.

The whole Burna Boy and Brymo drama started with an interview. Brymo was on TVC talking about his upcoming album “Macabre” (which wasn’t released yet). He accused Burna Boy of stealing a part of it for his hit song “City Boy.” Brymo basically said Burna Boy wasn’t original and took his music.

Burna Boy’s response to Brymo on the ‘Thanks Freestyle’ was “No go fall off like Brymo”.

Both Burna Boy and Brymo are undeniably talented musicians, but their recent actions haven’t exactly won them popularity contests. This feud is just another example of how their behaviour can sometimes cause problems.
