Tragic Loss: Nigerian Artist Mohbad Passes Away At 27

Perez Medcare Hospital, the hospital responsible for declaring Mohbad dead, has released an official press statement to discharge any misconceptions that the singer passed in their facility.

The hospital categorically stated on their Instagram account on Monday, September 25, 2023, that Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, was confirmed dead upon his arrival at their facility.

The statement went on to provide detailed information about Mohbad’s condition when he was admitted to the hospital on September 12, 2023, underscoring that his body had already shown signs of rigidity long before it was brought to their premises.

The statement, in part, read as follows:

“We consider it pertinent to put on record that at about 04:30 pm on 12th of September 2023, the lifeless body of Mr Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba was brought to our medical facility and our medical team immediately sprang into action and after assessment, it was discovered that there was no sign of life, no central or peripheral pulse, no heartbeat, no recordable vital signs and his pupils were fixed and dilated.”

Furthermore, the hospital clarified that there were reports indicating that Mohbad had received treatment at home through an injection administered by a nurse before his death. Despite their medical team’s efforts to resuscitate him, these attempts proved unsuccessful. Consequently, they advised that Mohbad’s lifeless body should be transported to the nearest mortuary.

The hospital also made it explicitly clear that the nurse responsible for administering the injection to the singer was not among their staff, and Mohbad had never received medical treatment within their facility.

Continuing with the statement,

“Upon enquiry about the circumstances leading to the emergency, it was informed that the deceased was being treated at home by a nurse and that she administered injections on him. Our team therefore advised that the body be taken to the nearest government Hospital where he can be deposited in the morgue. Let it be known that he was not a patient of Perez Medcare Hospital and was never admitted at the hospital at any material time whatsoever also the staff who was said to be administering treatment on him at home is not our staff.”

The circumstances surrounding the untimely death of the late singer are presently subject to investigation by the Nigeria Police.

Subsequent to the initiation of this inquiry, his remains were exhumed, and a post-mortem examination was conducted. However, as of now, the findings of the autopsy have not been disclosed to the public.

Banky W Urges The Police To Be Thorough In The investigation Of Mohbad's Death | Fab.ng

Nigerian multi-talent Bankole Wellington commented on the tragic loss of the Nigerian street pop artist, Mohbad, also known as Imole. During an interview with BBC Pidgin, he expressed his deep sorrow over the singer’s mysterious death.

Banky emphasized the importance of a comprehensive investigation, emphasizing that it’s crucial for the well-being of all parties concerned.

He said,

“The story of Mohbad’s death is a heartbreaking and sad one, it was terrible what happened to him. There have been two things on my mind, number one his death and honestly they need to conduct a proper investigation for the sake of his wife, his son, fans and associates. I heard that the governor has brought the DSS into the investigation but they should be thorough with their investigation because the world is watching.”

Banky W, who is a singer, an actor, and now a politician, stressed the importance of transparent investigations to prevent individuals from hastily drawing conclusions on social media in a state of anxiety. He went on to urge the police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into two critical aspects: the circumstances of the artist’s passing and the alleged mistreatment he may have endured while alive.

In his words,

“They need to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death and find out what happened. We are all watching closely so it won’t be as though we are all jumping to conclusions, so the investigation is key to finding out the truth about what killed him. It has been a long time since I left the music industry but seeing the way this story has unfolded the past week has been very heartbreaking. Number two the living hell he went through while he was alive because there is no reason under the sun that he had to go through that bullying and intimidation without a hiding place.”
