Now that the harmattan season is almost over, it’s time to put away those long dresses, stockings, trousers and show off some skin.

I’m sure many of us already have our short ready to wear dresses.

However, you must know that there are certain rules for wearing a short dress to help you look chic and effortless too.

Rule 1: Wear FAB Shoes

Want to achieve that extra hot look? Wear statement shoes! Opt for breathable yet bold footwear. Pretty gladiator sandals or lightweight/perforated ankle boots will sure be a great way to look chic and make a statement.

Rule 2: Don’t Let The Panty Lines Show

Always wear seamless underwear or shape wear when donning a short dress. When panty lines show, they ruin the look and it wouldn’t matter that you’re wearing the most stunning dress ever!

Rule 3: Limit The Accessories

Your biggest accessories are your legs when you are wearing a short dress. Wearing a lot of accessories draws attention away from your legs to the accessories.

Rule 4: Choose An Appropriate Length

The definition of short varies from person to person. After all, we are of different heights. The ideal length for any height though is right below your fingertips. Try placing your arms at your sides when wearing a short dress. The dress should not be above where your fingertips stop. However, you can choose to slay in whatever length is most comfortable for you.

Rule 5: Don’t Wear A See-Through Dress

Short dresses always show off enough skin so wearing a see-through one is totally going over the top. It cheapens the whole look. It is best to stick to a sexy yet decent dress, you can wear a slip/camisole underneath to avoid looking slutty.

Established fashion designer Veekee James recently shared some valuable wisdom with aspiring designers. In an Instagram post uploaded on May 14, 2024, she focused on the importance of brand protection. Veekee James offered key steps that up-and-coming designers can take to safeguard their creations and build a thriving fashion brand.

She wrote,

“I don’t know anything about the issue going around on social media so I can’t really speak on it! Here’s my advise as someone who has been there done that.”

In her advice to aspiring designers, Veekee James emphasised the importance of setting clear boundaries with clients, particularly regarding payment and social media recognition.

She cautioned designers against situations where a client offers social media recognition (tagging the designer on a post) instead of proper payment for their work. This puts the designer in a difficult position, forcing them to choose between financial security and potential brand exposure.

She suggests designers establish clear terms upfront with clients.

“Once anyone comes to you with the ‘Do you want money or tag’ phrase, You better run! I’ve had so many of your faves, both in this country and abroad, use that phrase with me and that was it! Today some of these people will give anything to be in my piece! No cap. It just shows no respect or regard for your brand! Once you allow that, it confirms the fact that your brand has no value whatsoever!” she warned.

In her talk, the designer stressed the importance of clearly communicating a brand’s values to celebrity clientele.

“Be wise! Don’t let money come first before the important things! Sacrifice in business is a must! As long as you have made glaring the values of your brand, be ready to collaborate sometimes only with celebs who respect you as well! Never forget that it’s a win-win for you and the celeb! No one is doing you a favour!”

She stressed the importance of both staying true to your beliefs and not relying solely on celebrity clients for publicity.

“Don’t be desperate to be known through a person! You must know that only God is the LIFTER of Men! He will use only the people He chooses to lift you! Don’t try to do what only God can do for your brand! Don’t expect publicity from every celebrity and make desperate decisions without thinking!” she said.

The celebrity designer added,

“If you want to be a fashion designer, go and research the true meaning of being a designer! So that you don’t end up being a tailor parading him or herself as a designer! If you are a designer, do the work of a designer!”

The annual African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) unfolded her 10th edition on May 11th, 2024, transforming Lagos’ Eko Hotel and Suites into a dazzling spectacle. Nollywood’s A-listers and Africa’s most celebrated talents in film and television converged for a night of recognition and glamour.

The ceremony, broadcast live on DStv and GOtv, not only celebrated artistic achievements but also served as a platform for showcasing exquisite fashion.

The red carpet buzzed with excitement as celebrities arrived, meticulously embodying the “Wearable Art” theme. From breathtaking gowns that resembled flowing paintings to suits tailored with intricate details, the fashion parade was a visual feast.

This year, the party had a special theme: “Sleeping Beauties: The Garden of Time.” That theme is based on a story written in 1962 by J.G. Ballard. The story is about how rich and powerful people can’t avoid death, no matter how much money they have or how beautiful they are.
