Today World Diabetes Day.
This year’s campaign is done to raise awareness of the impact that diabetes has on the family and support network of those affected.
To commemorate this year’s World Diabetes Day, we are going to be showing you foods that will suitable for you if you are suffering from the condition.
Oats
Oats contain a type of fibre called beta-glucan, which seems to have an anti-diabetic effect. Oatmeal contains high amounts of magnesium, which helps the body use glucose and secrete insulin properly.
Whole Wheat Bread
100% whole wheat bread, which are higher in vitamins, minerals and blood-sugar-managing fibre than their simple, refined counterparts are perfect for a diabetic patient.
Beans
These little legumes pack a powerful punch for diabetics, with a winning combination of high-quality carbohydrates, lean protein, and soluble fibre that helps stabilize the body’s blood-sugar levels and keeps hunger in check. Studies found that type 2 diabetes patients who ate more legumes had improved blood sugar control and reduced their risk of heart disease.
Eggs
Eggs decrease inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, increase your “good” HDL cholesterol levels and modify the size and shape of your “bad” LDL cholesterol. Studies have shown that people with type 2 diabetes who consumed 2 eggs daily as part of a high protein diet, had improvements in cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Leafy Green Vegetables
Leafy green vegetables are extremely nutritious and low in calories. They’re also very low in digestible carbohydrates, great non-starchy vegetable options because they contain lutein, an important nutrient for eye health. This nutrient is essential for people with diabetes. They are also good sources of several vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C.
Fish
Fish is rich in protein, it will help to keep you satisfied; but also, fish contains a special type of fat that helps cool inflammation. Studies have shown that people with the highest blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids have less body-wide inflammation, the very inflammation that leads to and worsens diabetes and weight problems.
A fish-rich diet can also reduce your risk of developing health problems, especially stroke, as a result of your diabetes.
Nuts
Nuts like walnut, cashew nuts, almonds, hazelnuts and many more are delicious and nutritious. All types of nuts contain fibre and are low in digestible carbs, although some have more than others.
