She continues to rise as she recently surpassed Rema’s records. Ayra Starr has become the Nigerian artist with the most Spotify monthly listeners. This achievement puts her at number two among all African artists on the platform. She has 31,103,217 monthly listeners as of May 28, 2024.

This brings her closer to claiming the top spot currently held by South African star Tyla, who has 31,966,907 monthly listeners. Ayra’s dominance on Spotify comes just weeks after she eclipsed Rema’s previous record of 24.57 million monthly listeners.

Her meteoric rise began in 2021 with the release of her self-titled EP.

Since then, she’s become a powerhouse in the Nigerian and African music scene. In 2023, her hit single “Rush” earned her a Grammy nomination and also achieved Diamond certification in France, a remarkable feat.

Additionally, “Rush” became the most-viewed music video by a Nigerian female artist. Ayra’s talent and hard work have been further recognized with three nominations at the 2024 BET Awards, including Best New Artist and Best African Artist.
