Watch Maleek Berry, Ray BLK & Kid Ink In The Video For Yogi’s Stellar ‘Baby’

For Yogi‘s upcoming debut album, the London-born, Los Angeles-based producer says he plans to merge US and UK culture together, and his lead single, “Baby” featuring Maleek BerryRay BLK and Kid Ink, gives us an idea of what that actually means to the up-and-comer.

It’s been a month since the exceptional track dropped, and we finally have a stunning music video that should (hopefully) make the song one of this year’s big hits.

The infectious track, which samples Julio Bashmore’s 2012 song, “Au Seve”, finds all three artists playing to their different strengths. While they all do great work — Ray BLK and Yogi’s production, in particular, truly shine — the real star is Maleek Berry, who delivers a knockout intro.

Speaking with Complex about why he brought the three artists together, Yogi said:

“It was so important to get Ray BLK on this as she represents what’s happening in the U.K. at the moment.  She brings that South London swag, which kept the beat authentic.

Maleek represents what’s happening in the clubs in the UK at the moment. No one can deny the influence afrobeat is having on UK urban music right now.

[It also] made perfect sense to have Kid Ink rep LA culture and help merge all the worlds the song now represents.”

While most people will only listen to “Baby” for one or more of the three artists assembled, we are pretty certain a lot of them will leave as fans of the man behind the wheel, Yogi — we know we definitely did. If the songs on his debut album are this solid, we’ll all be in for a real treat.

Spotify Royalties: Nigerian Artists Earned Over 25B Naira | Fab.ng

Good news for Nigerian musicians! Spotify recently announced that the number of Nigerian artists earning over 10 million Naira in royalties has quadrupled since 2018.

The music industry in Sub-Saharan Africa is booming, with the fastest-growing revenue in the world according to a 2024 report by the IFPI. This region saw a staggering 24.7% increase in music revenue, far exceeding any other part of the globe.

This surge is largely driven by the growing popularity of paid streaming services.

These services now account for a whopping 24.5% of music revenue in Sub-Saharan Africa, with Sub-Saharan Africa being the only region to surpass 20% growth in this area.

Nigeria, a country of about 230 million people and home to some of Africa’s biggest Afrobeats stars is a major player in this music industry growth. Streaming platforms like Spotify are making a big difference for African artists. These platforms allow them to reach a much wider audience than before and earn money from their music globally.

In a move towards transparency, Spotify recently launched its annual “Loud & Clear” report. This report shares data on how much money Spotify pays out in royalties to artists, giving a clearer picture of the global streaming economy and how it works. For the second year in a row, Spotify has included specific data on how much Nigerian artists on their platform are earning.

Simi and Falz Have a song Coming Out This May | Fab.ng

Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, revealed in a recent interview on Angela Yee’s podcast, “Way Up,” that she has collaborated on a song with Falz, scheduled for release later this month.

Simi expressed that she and Falz share a strong musical connection, acknowledging their previous successful EP collaboration.

Despite misconceptions about her relationship with Falz before marrying Adekunle Gold, Simi emphasised their productive musical partnership. Anticipating the release, Simi eagerly waits for fans to hear their new song, describing it as humorous.

Simi said,

“I have one more single coming out at the end of this month. I can’t say the title now, but I can tell you who I’m featuring on it. It’s Falz! This is interesting because Falz and I have a history. Before I got married, we did an EP and everything. People thought we were dating. We had a couple of songs together, and people loved them. They were like, ‘You have a good chemistry.’ So we decided to do a joint EP, and we made an EP called ‘Chemistry.’ People really loved it. So we want to do something again for the culture. It’s kind of a funny song. I’m really excited, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

This isn’t the first time Simi and Falz have worked together. In the past, they even created a hit EP together, which caused some fans to think they were dating (but Simi cleared that up).

Simi married Adekunle Gold on January 9, 2019, in Lagos. The couple celebrated the birth of their first child, Adejare, in 2020.

Simi says their connection is all about the music; they have what she calls “musical chemistry.” She can’t wait for fans to hear their new song, and she even hinted that it could be funny.
