El-Rufai to inaugurate CCTV cameras in Kaduna on Friday – Aide

Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i will unveil the first set of CCTV cameras in Kaduna on Friday, installed to enhance security surveillance in the metropolis, an official said on Thursday.

Alhaji Sa’idu Adamu, Counsellor for Information and Communication to Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

“The CCTV cameras would monitor and provide surveillance towards reducing criminal activities within the metropolis and secure the state,’’ he said while reacting to a statement by the state chapter of the PDP.

The PDP on Wednesday accused the Kaduna State Government of displaying ineptitude in the handling of security issues in the state.

Adamu however dismissed the PDP claim, saying it was unfortunate and irrational.

“Kaduna state government is doing everything possible to beef up security in the state, and it is unfortunate for someone to think that the government is doing nothing.

“Government has been spending huge amount of funds on security.

“On Friday, Jan. 12, the governor is going to launch surveillance cameras for Operation Yaki.

“By this effort we will be able to record so many things and our security agencies will be able to track down criminals and bring them to book.’’

He stressed that the PDP lacked the moral right to accuse any administration in the country of insensitivity to security issues.

“For PDP, it is too early for them to forget what happened in the past; we all know what happened between 1999 to early 2015 in terms of security in the state and the country.

“We know so many crises that happened under PDP administration in the state and the country.

“It is natural for the party that brought us where we are today to forget the killings in Southern part of the state during their time and start thinking otherwise simply because they have lost power.’’

Adamu stressed that the issue of security was the collective responsibility of all citizens and the state government would play its part diligently.

“Security lies in the hands of everyone; we must be able to understand that government alone cannot provide all the security needs we are looking for.

“We should also try to secure ourselves by knowing how to live with people and how to guard our utterances,’’ he added.

NAN reports that the state government had earmarked over N2.55 billion to procure CCTV cameras and drones in the 2017 budget.

Out of the amount, more than N1.5 billion was for the procurement and installation of CCTV cameras in strategic areas of the state.

Ayo Edebiri, a Nigerian-American actress, recently shared why she left the Pentecostal church she grew up in.

Edebiri, who won awards for her acting, said her beliefs changed a lot after moving to New York. Raised in a strict religious household by Nigerian immigrant parents, she attended a Pentecostal church with her mom.

The church had strict rules about clothing, not allowing jewellery, revealing clothing, or anything form-fitting. She also found the church’s teachings about the second coming of Jesus to be very anxiety-provoking. One of the things that most bothered her was the idea that her friends who were gay or Muslim wouldn’t go to heaven.

Why Fela Kuti Married 27 Women In One Day | Fab.ng

Seun Kuti, the son of the late Afrobeats pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has shared the reasons behind his father’s decision to marry 27 women. These women included his backup singers and dancers, all in one day.

In 1978, Fela Anikulapo Kuti made headlines worldwide by marrying 27 women in a single day. The act was seen as extremely bold and unconventional. This group marriage was not just a spectacle but had deeper motivations behind it.

Seun Kuti explained that Fela’s female dancers and band members were frequently subjected to harsh media scrutiny and were often labelled as prostitutes. This negative portrayal deeply concerned Fela, who has always challenged societal norms and media propaganda. To counter these damaging accusations and preserve the honour and dignity of these women, Fela decided to marry all 27 of them at once.

Seun elaborated that this act was Fela’s way of showing solidarity with his band members and dancers.

It affirmed their importance and value in his life and work. By marrying them, Fela aimed to protect them from societal stigma and ensure they were respected.

In a recent interview on the “Fresh Off The Boat” podcast via Skype, Seun shared these insights. He highlighted his father’s commitment to challenging societal norms and defending the people close to him. This act of marrying 27 women was another example of Fela’s rebellious spirit and desire to stand up against injustice and societal prejudice.

“My father was under immense media propaganda. He was very scrutinised. And most of it were directed to the women that were in his life—his female backup singers, dancers.”

“They all lived together with my dad, but the media started calling them prostitutes. So my dad, in order to preserve their honour and dignity, asked them if they would choose to be his brides, so nobody would call them names anymore, and they all agreed. That was how the marriage happened.”
