Since 2020, a genre of music called Amapiano has taken the Nigerian music scene by storm. This unique sound, derived from South Africa, merges the energy of Kwaito with the groove of house music.

In Nigerian clubs, Amapiano’s popularity skyrockets thanks to its powerful basslines that kick off any party. DJs across the country use both the Nigerian Afrobeats twist on Amapiano and the original South African style, keeping partygoers moving.

However, one of the genre’s leading figures, DJ Maphorisa, recently took to social media to share his thoughts on how Nigerian DJs handle South African Amapiano tracks. In his message, Maphorisa expressed concern about the tendency of Nigerian DJs to increase the speed of these songs by playing them at a much higher beat per minute (BPM) than intended. He believes that speeding up Amapiano tracks to 160 BPM actually harms the music, stripping it of its key elements and signature vibe.

By explaining this viewpoint, Maphorisa aims to guide DJs towards a more authentic representation of South African Amapiano within the Nigerian music landscape.

“Amapiano shouldn’t be rushed. 160 bpm is too high. Please bring it down to 130,” Maphorisa said during the Instagram live session.

DJ Maphorisa is well-known in the Nigerian music scene due to his collaborations with various Afrobeats artists like Wizkid and Lojay.

Starting in 2020, Amapiano has become a significant component of Afrobeats, and numerous Nigerian musicians have profited from incorporating this South African style into their music.

A recent example of this trend is Asake and Olamide‘s track “Amapiano,” which pays homage to the genre. This song received a nomination for Best African Song Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Bobrisky Breaks Silence on Falz Defamation Claims | fab.ng

Following a 24-hour ultimatum to retract defamatory statements made against Nigerian singer Falz and his father in a viral voice note, crossdresser Bobrisky has issued a statement.

In an Instagram post on October 16, 2023, Bobrisky denied making any defamatory remarks about Falz or his father. He emphasized that he is awaiting an official response from his legal counsel before providing further details on the matter.

This statement comes in response to the serious allegations made against Bobrisky, which have sparked widespread public attention and concern.

He wrote,

“TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: In reply to the two letters in circulation from the Law Firm of the Falanas. I like to state for the records and pending the official reply from my counsel, state for the avoidance of doubt that I, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, aka Bobrisky, did not publish any defamatory statement or statements concerning the learnt SAN and his Son Falz.”

Bobrisky demands accountability from the publisher of defamatory statements against Falz and his father.

“It is in the public domain pursuant to my solicitor’s letter dated the 27th day of September 2024 that I have denied any knowledge of what VDM published. I stand by my express denial and put the matter to strict proof and advise that whoever has been defamed should hold the publisher of the defamatory content and my fundamental rights to privacy of my communications should be respected and protected.”

In another story post, Bobrisky emphasized that the responsibility lay with Verydarkman, not him.

“I OKUNEYE idris aka BOBRISKY didn’t give Falz or his dad any money for pardon. As a matter of fact no penny was given to them. Have said dis before and i will say it again. The person that published an Audio online should take fully responsible for what he posted in public. My lawyer will respond to any further information d public want to about dis ongoing issue trending on social media,” he wrote.

The controversy erupted when media personality Verydarkman released an alleged voice note from Bobrisky that quickly spread across the internet.

In this explosive recording, Bobrisky openly admitted that he had evaded prison time despite receiving a sentence for money laundering. Furthermore, the crossdresser boldly claimed that he had paid both Falz and his father to secure a pardon.

Subsequently, after the damaging voice note became public, Falz and his father’s law chambers took immediate action by issuing a stern 24-hour ultimatum to Verydarkman, demanding that he retract his statement.

However, Verydarkman remained defiant and refused to comply with their demands. As a result of his non-compliance, the legal battle intensified, leading to the court’s decisive action.

Finally, the court ruled against Verydarkman. They imposed a substantial fine of ₦500 million. Additionally, they ordered him to remove all defamatory posts related to the matter.
