Babajide Sanwo-Olu attended the Heineken Lagos Fashion Week, organized by Style House Files, which occurred last week from Thursday, October 26, 2023, to Saturday, October 28, 2023.
While the event showcased fashion, celebrities, and style influencers, a controversial moment emerged. The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, attended the event and even closed the show.
He walked the runway for Nigerian designer, Emmy Kasbit, donning a blazer from that designer. This generated diverse reactions on social media.

Suga Belly, an X user, said:
“Wait, so you Lagos people invited Sanwo Olu to Lagos Fashion Week in the same October that the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre, which Sanwo Olu admitted inviting the Army to? Anyway, what did I expect? Lagos people are shallower than an Nkwobi bowl.”
Omujuwa seemed to have a different opinion and also shared on X saying,
“As though a state Governor shouldn’t be seen advancing the creative sector in a state that more or less keeps the Nigerian economy on its toes, take away the creative sector, and Nigeria’s soft power goes to zilch!”
Pamela Adie also took to X to say,
“This here is one of our main problems. We keep giving our oppressors platforms. We keep endorsing them. We keep smiling with them. We should have nothing to do with them. Nothing at all. But this is Nigeria. Anywhere bele face.”

In a post on his X page (formerly known as Twitter), governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said,
“More from my time spent with the creative forces of Lagos witnessing the incredible display of creativity and talent at the #LagosFashionweek.
I have no doubt that this event will continue to elevate our city’s fashion scene showcasing innovation and style.”
