Global African Students Education Summit (GASES) By Amara Kanu

Published

on

Amara Kanu a final year Masters degree student in Entrepreneurial Management in the European Business School London, she noticed that all the Africans she’s come in contact with are spread out in different directions and there are no common platform to build upon knowledge and share experience to make things better. Hence the initiative for GASES, a platform that brings together African students across the boarders to network and share experiences. The stunning Amara is the wife of former ace Nigerian football player Kanu Nwankwo.

Amara said about GASES “It’s a pioneer summit I’m involved in- bringing all African students together to share best practices, network and gain opportunity for scholarships and mentoring.

I put together a small team is and we managed to pull about 80 people to attend the first summit which took place on Saturday at the University College London (UCL)This year, the theme was celebrating the Rich African Education Narratives, telling our stories…

We also awarded 35 presidents and Vice Presidents of Student Unions in British universities who are African. Majority which are Nigerian students (see program brochure attached). I think this is amazing considering the fact that we are in the U.K. And this year alone, 44 Africans are holding excellent leadership positions in U.K. Universities.

I think this needs to be encouraged thus the reason for GASES and my concern for more collaboration between Africans to sustain the leadership of our African future….

Mrs Chika Balogun director general of the Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Nigeria also came from Nigeria to deliver a Keynote Speech. Another remarkable speech was given by the SUP of Cambridge University, Amatey who is a Ghanaian. How amazing!DAAD- the largest scholarship body in the world based in Germany sent in their rep Dr Birk from Germany to deliver a presentation on how they would like to work with more African scholars exchanges and universities.I’ve also been working with Dr Ayobami who is a product of university PhD scholarship from Nigeria to Germany and now a lecturer at Hatfield University has also been helpful in coordinating with me.

Next year we hope to have GASES Africa to celebrate once again excellence in education and encourage knowledge interaction and inspire the young ones to keep going”.

Asake, the Nigerian superstar, has achieved another milestone as his collaboration with British rapper Central Cee earned a spot on the NBA 2K25 season 2 soundtrack album.

Specifically, ‘Wave,’ a standout track from Asake’s third album ‘Lungu Boy,’ now features alongside songs from prominent American artists such as Key Glock and Lil Pete on the game’s soundtrack.

Notably, Asake stands as the only Afrobeats artist on this album, marking a significant continuation of Afrobeats’ presence in the game series. Previously, Adekunle Gold’s ‘Party No Dey Stop,’ featuring Zinoleesky, appeared in the NBA 2K24 soundtrack album.

Furthermore, through this achievement, Asake joins an elite group of Nigerian pop stars, including Adekunle Gold and Burna Boy, who have contributed to the soundtrack of this popular game. Impressively, the 2024 version has already sold over 9 million units worldwide.

Additionally, this inclusion further solidifies Asake’s position as a global superstar, as he has consistently proven himself to be one of Afrobeats’ most dynamic hitmakers. Since his breakthrough into the mainstream in 2022, he has maintained an impressive streak of commercial success, consistently delivering chart-topping and record-breaking hits.

Most recently, Asake completed his highly successful ‘Lungu Boy’ tour, during which he accomplished remarkable feats. Throughout the tour, he sold out several prestigious venues, including the iconic Madison Square Garden, Toyota Arena, TD Gardens, and Capital One Arena.

“Wives on Strike” first hit the screens in 2016. Shortly, in 2018, “Wives on Strike: The Revolution” followed. This film focuses on a group of women who refuse to have sex with their husbands. They did this to push them into advocating for a young girl, forced by her father to marry an older man.

Their movement soon evolves into a broader protest against gender-based violence in the community. Though lighthearted, the film sparks vital conversations about the challenges women face.

“The Uprising: Wives on Strike” delves deeper into themes of love, friendship, loss, betrayal, and resilience. The story follows a widow as her world unravels after kidnappers take her only child. As time runs out, she must confront the darkest aspects of human suffering to save her child.

What’s more, Dioni Vision Films produced the film and Nile Entertainment distributed it. “The Uprising: Wives on Strike” marks the first title under Nile’s distribution arm.

Tomi Adeoye and Omoni Oboli produced the film, which features a star-studded cast. These include Omoni Oboli, Hilda Dokubo, Uche Jombo, Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma McDermott, Bukunmi “Kiekie” Adeaga-Ilori, Okey Bakassi, and many others.

Notable actors such as May Yul Edochie, Julius Agwu, Segun Arinze, and Sani Musa Danja also play key roles in this powerful drama.

Life And Dirt Tops Prime Video Charts In Nigeria | fab.ng

Nigerian filmmaker James Abinibi’s latest directorial effort, “Life and Dirt,” has achieved remarkable success on Amazon Prime. The series has quickly risen to the top of the charts in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon. Within a week of its debut, it became a must-watch on the streaming platform.

The five-episode series has captivated audiences across the continent with its thrilling narrative. It skillfully blends humour, drama, and the complexities of life. The show’s gripping and emotionally charged storyline has resonated strongly with viewers.

“Life and Dirt” follows the intense journey of Yoshua, a young Nigerian driven by ambition. His pursuit of quick wealth leads him down a dangerous path. The five adrenaline-pumping episodes take viewers on a wild ride through Lagos. Here, Yoshua’s wit and resolve are put to the test. He becomes entangled in a life-threatening race, fighting to survive while protecting his secrets.

The series’ rapid climb to the top of Amazon Prime charts in three countries underscores its widespread appeal. Moreover, it highlights the show’s significant impact on audiences.

Behind this hit production are two powerhouses of Nigerian entertainment. First, James Abinibi is known for his creative storytelling and nuanced character portrayals. He both produced and directed the series. Secondly, Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugbomma played a crucial role. Ugbomma served as the writer, executive producer, and co-director. Additionally, he took on the lead role in the project.

Bovi’s strong character and comedic touch bring a unique flair to the production. His involvement strikes a delicate balance between dramatic intensity and lighthearted moments. Despite this, the emotional depth of Yoshua’s journey remains intact.

The cast of “Life and Dirt” is equally impressive. It features talented actors such as Uzor Arukwe, Shaffy Bello, Idia Aisien, and Ric Hassani. The ensemble also includes Dorcas Shola Fapson (Ms DSF), Kanayo O. Kanayo, and Jide Kosoko. This stellar lineup adds to the series’ appeal and credibility.

As viewers eagerly anticipate the next chapter in Yoshua’s journey, excitement builds for the second season. Meanwhile, Abinibi is not resting on his laurels. He is set to launch another project titled “Miss PJ,” also scheduled for release on Amazon Prime Video.

This new project is described as a thriller that quickly shifts gears. It transitions from a bright and lively tone to one of mystery and uncertainty. This sudden change in atmosphere is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

With these successful and upcoming projects, Abinibi is cementing his place in the Nigerian film industry. His work is not only entertaining local audiences but also gaining international recognition. As a result, he is helping to put Nigerian content on the global map.
