These 5 Signs Shows You’re Living Above Your Means

Living above your means is pretty easy to do these days, especially since we live in a time when buying on credit has become the norm. But just because it seems normal doesn’t mean you aren’t doing a real disservice to your current and future well-being.

An adage says cut your coat according to your cloth. But in the fast-paced world of today, it’s easy to go in deep over your head.

However, there are some signs that show you’re biting more than you can chew

You aren’t saving at least 10% of your salary

Everyone should save 10 to 15 percent of their total income. But if you can’t save at least 5 percent even while paying off debt this could be a sign that you’re living beyond your means. Give up things in the short term to be successful in the long term, if you cut back each month and don’t go out to eat, or to the movies, or whatever it takes for you to spend less, you will have more money to save.

You don’t have a budget

Having a written budget is one of the most important steps to financial freedom and living within your means. So if you’ve never set financial parameters for yourself and you’re not filthy rich chances are that you need to take an honest inventory of your income, spending, and savings goals. Not doing so will only cause you a great deal of stress, uncertainty, and even guilt.

You have no emergency fund

Part of the reason you need savings is to pay, in cash, for those inevitable emergency purchases like if your car has a major fault or you get hit with an excruciatingly high bill. Financing these kinds of expenses with a loan will only continue the cycle of living beyond what you can afford. Try to build an emergency fund of about N50,000; that way, you at least have a cushion when an unexpected expense crops up. Try to do this within six months and set aside as much as possible each month towards the goal. This is not your total emergency fund. It is simply a place to start.

Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charly Boy has revealed how his interactions with gay and transgender individuals have significantly impacted his personal style and artistic expression.

During a recent appearance on the “With Chude” podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, the singer discussed his early appearance and the resulting speculation about his identity.

“Why was your first look effeminate, for lack of a better word? What was behind that choice?” Jideonwo asked.

Charly Boy discussed his distinctive fashion choices from the 1980s and 1990s.

He noted that his feminine style became a topic of conversation at the time, leading to speculation about his sexual orientation.

He said,

“I used to have a girly girl look back in the day, I used to wear a lot of rouge, makeup, lipstick and whatever, and that’s where the gay speculations started. People thought that I was that-way inclined until my friend Tina looked at me and was like , ‘nah, you need something more macho, more masculine.'”

Charly Boy disclosed that during his final years in the United States, he primarily associated with transvestites. These individuals were individuals who dressed in clothing traditionally associated with the opposite gender.

“I wasn’t one but I just loved them; I loved how they switched so I used to study them,” he clarified.

“If you remember that on the Charly Boy Show I had this character called Linda, my alter ego. That was easy for me to do because I had been around bi, gay and transgender people, so I picked all the nuances from that,” he explained.

Charly Boy affirmed that while his interactions with his gender-fluid friends significantly shaped his personality, he always considered himself a pioneer in setting trends.

I love being myself, I love to stand out, I don’t want to follow trends; I prefer to start my own trends; and do my own thing. That’s how I felt right from the day I was born, wanting to go through another way,” he concluded.
