Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh has spoken out against body shaming on social media. On December 10, 2024, she shared a common saying on Instagram: “Before you body shame any woman, show us your mother.”

Tonto Dikeh used this statement to highlight the importance of respecting women’s bodies and avoiding harmful criticism of their appearance.

She wrote,

“This statement highlights the hypocrisy of men/women who body-shame women, especially those whose physical changes result from natural processes like childbirth. It calls for self-reflection and empathy, reminding them to consider the sacrifices and transformations women, including their own mothers, often go through in life.”

Dikeh’s post sparked numerous reactions from her followers, who shared their own experiences and perspectives on body shaming.

One follower commented, “Most times the body shaming comes from a fellow woman, and it’s so sad 😢😢😢😢.”

Even Nigerian celebrities aren’t immune to body shaming in the age of social media. Recently, veteran actress Kate Henshaw faced online criticism.

On September 17, 2024, she posted a fun video to X (formerly Twitter), showcasing her dance moves in the gym with a colleague.

The video was accompanied by a cheerful caption, “Energy never lies… No matter what, never lose your joy… Hold fast to it.. E get why.. Have a truly lovely day my authentic X family,” which was met with a range of responses from her followers.

A negative comment read, “Flat yansh. Aunty Kate, this your to match gym outfits ehnnn. Give me some now.”

One of Henshaw’s followers then slammed the X user, saying,

“What a stupid, backhanded comment to post. Real women lift each other up, not pass backhanded compliments. For the record, a backhanded compliment is a comment that blurs the line between insult and compliment. Apologise to Kate and moving forward, think before you post.”

Henshaw responded to her follower, saying, “She knew what she did… I don’t need her apology…Thanks Elyzabeth.”

Kate Henshaw Reacts To Police Blaming Ritual Killings On Hookup Culture

Kate Henshaw Blasts Police Over Hookup Culture Blame | fab.ng

Nigerian actress Kate Henshaw has now responded to police reports that attribute ritual killings to the prevalence of hookup culture.

Subsequently, after facing intense criticism on social media in November 2024, Henshaw found herself at the centre of controversy.

Moreover, this backlash was primarily due to her provocative comments about Yahoo boys and ritual killings involving young women.

Indeed, on December 4, 2024, Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, notably appeared on Channels Television’s Morning Brief to provide critical insights into the increasingly alarming trend of ritual killings linked to the hookup culture.

She stated,

“Today, we have numerous reports of missing persons. By the time we start an investigation, not less than 10 young girls and ladies go missing daily. These cases are not accidental. Most are tied to hookup arrangements where young women are invited by strangers to unknown places, ultimately leading to their harm or use in ritual killings.”

The report dominated news headlines and ignited widespread discussion on social media.

An X user dramatically resurfaces a previous controversy. This highlights an earlier incident where actress Kate Henshaw faced intense criticism for articulating a similar perspective.

The post read,

“There was a time not too long ago @HenshawKate made a statement as regards this and some people came for her. Alas!!! She has been vindicated.”

In response to the post, Kate Henshaw wrote, “Let the role model females who spouted I was promoting femicide show naa.. Alas, their mouths are shut!!”

On October 31, 2024, the actress commented on a viral video featuring a young girl who openly admitted to dating a Yahoo boy, a known internet fraudster.

Henshaw expressed concern that the girl’s choice put her at risk of becoming a victim of ritual killings.

She wrote, “Na so dem go take pieces you for ritual…Yeye mindset.”

Social media users swiftly condemned Henshaw’s post, launching a wave of criticism that accused her of displaying profound insensitivity.

Many commenters went further, arguing that her statements appeared to rationalise or minimise the gravity of femicide.

An X user asked her, “This is so wrong to say. How is murder justifiable?”

The actress responded,

“That’s the value she placed on herself with her words and actions. That’s how she reduced herself to be used by all and sundry; hat’s the green light she has put on but that’s OK with you.”

Davido reveals the one thing missing in Nigeria | fab.ng

Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has called for improved leadership as the key to unlocking Nigeria’s full potential.

In a recent interview with Elevate Africa, the singer shared profound insights on leadership and the role of music in Africa’s development.

During the discussion, he highlighted how entertainment has significantly reshaped global perceptions of Africa, emphasising that he views music as a powerful tool for enlightenment and change.

When addressing Nigeria’s leadership challenges, Davido praised the Nigerian people’s resilience and unique spirit. However, he candidly pointed out that poor leadership remains the major obstacle to the nation’s progress.

He elaborated on this critical issue, emphasising the urgent need for transformative leadership to drive growth and development.

“The thing about Nigerians is that we adapt. I always tell people that if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive everywhere. I feel like we’re survivors and we’re strong-willed people and I feel the only thing missing are the right people to lead us,” he said.

The internationally renowned artist highlighted the widespread influence and significant presence of Nigerians around the globe as a testament to the nation’s immense potential.

“If you go anywhere in the world, everyone has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or anything, you’d have Nigerian friends. Anywhere in the world I fly to for shows, there are always Nigerian restaurants and Nigerian communities too. This just shows you that Nigeria is a force, you know?” he added.

He stressed the importance of stronger leadership in Nigeria to propel the nation toward achieving its full potential.

“I felt like leadership is one of the main things. If we get it right, there isn’t anything that would stop us. I mean we can’t go forward without the best leaders,” he concluded.
