The critically acclaimed Netflix drama Adire won the prestigious Best Cinematography award at the 16th Best of Nollywood Awards.

The film’s production team and distributor enthusiastically shared this significant achievement. He shared it through an Instagram post.

Emmanuel Igbekele Odihiri is a seasoned director of photography. He brought his exceptional skills to the Netflix drama “Adire” after establishing an impressive portfolio.

Further, his notable previous works include cinematography for films such as “Looking for Baami“, “Soole”, “Breaded Life“, “Ajosepo”, “Japa”, and the Netflix series “Far From Home“.

Significantly, the film received four prestigious nominations at the Best of Nollywood Awards. This includes Best Cinematography, Best Actress, Best Costume, and Best Production Design categories.

Furthermore, upon its Netflix release on January 13, 2024, “Adire” achieved remarkable commercial success. The film generated ₦8 million during its opening weekend.

Notably, the Best of Nollywood Awards, which has been celebrating Nollywood’s excellence since its inaugural edition in 2009, features over 30 categories and is presented annually by Best of Nollywood Magazine.

Specifically, the awards honour outstanding achievements within the Nigerian film industry.

The film’s compelling narrative follows a young female fashion entrepreneur, portrayed by Kehinde Bankole, who confronts the challenging consequences of her dark past as a former sex worker.

Impressively, Jack’enneth Opukeme not only created and wrote the entire screenplay but also acted in the film.

Under the skilled direction of Adeoluwa Owu, alternatively known as Captain Degzy, the film boasts an ensemble cast.

The cast includes prominent actors such as Femi Branch, Kelechi Udegbe, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Ibrahim Chatta, Yemi Blaq, Yvonne Jegede, Lizzy Jay, Mike Afolarin, Tomi Ojo, Damilola Ogunsi, Onyinye Odokoro, Ifeanyi Kalu, and Layi Wasabi.

Additionally, other films received recognition at the awards, with “Jagun Jagun” emerging as a standout performer by winning six awards.

Family Gbese tells the story of a young man thriving in his career while dealing with a troubling family issue. His elder brother’s severe gambling addiction lands the family in deep debt with dangerous street gangs.

As tensions escalate, he faces a tough dilemma: protect his family or safeguard his love life. The film dives deep into themes of family, loyalty, and the personal costs of success, resonating strongly with viewers.

Inkblot released Family Gbese in cinemas on November 8, 2024, following the massive success of Muri & Ko, which grossed over ₦100 million.

The film’s director, Michelle Bello, a renowned British-Nigerian filmmaker, brings her storytelling expertise to this project.

She began her career in 2007 as a producer on Moments With Mo and has since directed notable works such as Sesame Street Nigeria.

Her debut feature, Small Boy, earned her nominations at prestigious festivals like the American Black Film Festival.

The film’s distributor, Cinemax Nigeria, took to Instagram to update its audience on the latest feat the film has attained.

This milestone comes after a strong opening weekend, where the film raked in ₦57.7 million. This impressive figure made it the highest-grossing Nollywood movie for a non-holiday weekend in 2024. It also set the record for the highest-grossing Nollywood weekend by an independent distributor.

A joint venture between Wumi Toriola Productions and Captain of the Sea Productions, Queen Lateefah delves into the life of Lateefah Adeleke, a 30-year-old businesswoman striving for societal recognition.

Her carefully constructed façade starts to unravel when she encounters Jide Rhodes, a businessman who exposes her true self. The film explores poignant themes of ambition, self-discovery, and the repercussions of living a fabricated existence.

The star-studded cast, featuring Kunle Remi, Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, Broda Shaggi, Femi Adebayo, Bimbo Manuel, Elvina Ibru, Enioluwa, and Gbugbemi Ejeye, brings these themes to life on screen.
