Liverpool Goalkeeper, Alisson Becker Out For Six Weeks With Hamstring Injury

Alisson Becker out for six weeks with hamstring injury | fab.ng

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker (32) is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring injury. This injury will, unfortunately, rule him out of the upcoming matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Brazilian international sustained the injury during last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, being forced to leave the field late in the second half. Reports in the British press indicate that tests have revealed Alisson is unlikely to be fit to play until after the upcoming international break.

This means the earliest match he could potentially participate in would be the trip to Southampton on November 24th. Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders are set to face Chelsea on October 20th and Arsenal a week later. Additionally, their next two Champions League fixtures will pit them against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.

Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed the Palace match due to illness, is expected to fill in for Alisson, similar to his role last season when Alisson Becker was sidelined with another hamstring injury. Speaking after the victory at Crystal Palace, Slot predicted a lengthy absence for his number-one goalkeeper.

“We have to wait and see but it will be a few weeks for him to be back. I think it is, yes (his hamstring),” he said.

“He’s clearly our number one, he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he gets injured, not only for him but us as a team.”

Liverpool currently has 18 points from seven Premier League matches. With this, they surpass both the defending champions Manchester City and Arsenal by one point each.

Jhon Duran Signs New Aston Villa Deal Until 2030 | fab.ng

Aston Villa has secured a new long-term contract with Jhon Duran, following his impressive start to the season, as the club announced on Monday. The 20-year-old striker reportedly agreed to personal terms with West Ham during the summer transfer window. He has now committed to staying at Villa Park until 2030.

Jhon Duran has been in remarkable form this season. He scored six goals despite starting only once across all competitions. One of his standout performances came last week.

Interestingly, this was where he netted the decisive goal in Villa’s 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League. His ability to significantly impact with limited game time has not gone unnoticed.

The Colombian international joined Aston Villa in January 2023 after a successful stint with MLS club Chicago Fire. In his debut Premier League season, he scored five goals in 23 appearances. Furthermore, most of the goals were from the bench. His adaptability and knack for finding the back of the net quickly earned him recognition as a rising talent.

Villa manager Unai Emery has been vocal about believing in Duran’s abilities. After the win against Bayern, Emery expressed his confidence in the young forward’s future. He described his potential as “huge.”

“Sometimes he has been impatient and I need to speak to him as a person and connect to him as a person,” he said.

“As well as a player to try to let him play, putting him on the field because his talent is there and the capacity to help us.”

Duran’s skill set, work ethic, and ability to perform in high-pressure moments make him a key asset for the club. Moreover, this stands as they compete on multiple fronts this season.

By securing Duran on a long-term deal, Aston Villa is clearly investing in his development, anticipating that he will play a major role in their future successes. His rapid rise since arriving at Villa Park has turned heads, and fans will be eager to see how he continues to evolve in the coming years.

After seven games, Aston Villa currently hold fifth place in the Premier League table. This is sitting just four points behind the leaders, Liverpool.

Naomi Osaka Pulls Out Of Home Japan Open Due To Back Injury

Naomi Osaka pulls out of home Japan Open due to injury | fab.ng

Naomi Osaka, the 26-year-old four-time Grand Slam champion, announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Japan Open tournament on Monday. Her recent back injury, which forced her to retire during the China Open in Beijing, prevents her participation in her home country’s event.

The Japan Tennis Association released a statement confirming Osaka will not compete in the WTA 250 tournament, scheduled for October 14th-20th in the city of Osaka.

Osaka had displayed impressive form at the China Open last week, securing three consecutive victories. However, during her round-of-16 match against Coco Gauff, who eventually won the tournament, Osaka’s back injury compelled her to retire after the second set concluded.

The former world number one’s withdrawal disappoints fans who looked forward to seeing her compete on home soil. Despite her strong performance early in the Beijing tournament, Osaka prioritizes her recovery to prevent further injury complications.

“So I locked my back up during practice earlier and honestly wasn’t sure if I could even play but I just wanted to try,” she said on social media.

“Unfortunately things just got progressively worse during the match.”

Osaka last competed in Japan at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo two years ago, where her appearance proved brief. She emerged victorious in her first-round match, though her opponent, Daria Saville, retired after just one game.

Abdominal pains forced Osaka to withdraw before her scheduled second-round match in that tournament. This Tokyo event was her final competition. This was before she took a break from tennis to welcome her daughter, Shai. Consequently, she arrived in July 2023.

Naomi Osaka made her comeback to professional tennis in January 2024. However, she has faced challenges in regaining the exceptional form that helped her clinch four Grand Slam titles – two Australian Opens and two US Opens – between 2018 and 2021.

Tennis fans and analysts closely watch Osaka’s journey back to competitive tennis as she balances motherhood with her professional career. Her recent performances show glimpses of her previous excellence, though consistency remains a work in progress.

Kennedy Boboye Files Lawsuit Against Heartland For N19 Million In Unpaid Wages

Kennedy Boboye Files Lawsuit Against Heartland | fab.ng

Sunshine Stars coach Kennedy Boboye, aged 50, has taken legal action against his former club, Heartland. He is seeking to recover an outstanding debt of 19 million naira (₦19,000,000) owed to him.

The Naze Millionaires appointed Boboye, a two-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champion, as their head coach in November 2023. This followed the dismissal of Christian Obi due to the team’s poor performance. At his appointment, Heartland had endured a nine-game winless streak.

Under Boboye’s leadership, the Owerri-based club made significant progress. They secured three wins and one draw in seven matches. Despite this improvement, Kennedy Boboye was later dismissed. This was after Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma ordered the reinstatement of Christian Obi as head coach.

“A month after I was appointed as Heartland coach, I was asked to leave under strange circumstances, despite having turned the club’s fortunes around. The Imo State government wanted the reinstatement of the late Christian Obi—may his soul rest in peace,” Boboye said.

“I left without any issues, but they have refused to pay my outstanding wages after terminating my contract. It’s been almost a year now, and they seem unwilling to resolve it.

“I have reliable information that they have settled the debts owed to former players and coaches, but mine remains an exception.

“Coach Emmanuel Amuneke reached out to me, suggesting I hold off for a while. Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau mentioned that he would be granting Heartland a two to three-month waiver.

“I’ve lost my patience, and I believe the best course of action is to proceed with my original plan to take legal action against Heartland, as this is clearly a breach of contract.

“It’s unfair that I’ve been unable to support my family and manage my medical bills, as my former employers have effectively put my life on hold for the past 11 months.”

What’s more, at the time of publishing this article, Heartland management has not responded.
