'Wives on Strike' to return in 2024: see the new faces | fab.ng

The Nigerian film “Wives on Strike” was a hit in 2016. It was followed by an equally successful sequel, “Wives on Strike: The Revolution” in 2018. The story isn’t over yet! On July 10, 2024, filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced the exciting news on her Instagram. She’s creating a new instalment to the series titled “The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3.”

This upcoming movie will likely build upon the themes of the first two films, which explored marital issues and female empowerment with a touch of humour.

“It’s finally here, and my heart is brimming with gratitude and excitement! Returning to the big screen with The Uprising – Wives on Strike feels like coming home,” she said in the post.

The first “Wives on Strike” movie came out in 2016 and was a big success.

In 2018, they released a funny sequel titled “Wives on Strike: The Revolution.” Both films tell the story of a group of women who use a unique tactic – withholding intimacy – to fight for what they believe in.

They took a stand against a young girl being forced into marriage in the first movie. This act also sparks a broader fight against violence towards women in their community. Even though the movies are funny, they also tackle serious problems faced by women.

In the post, Oboli expresses her gratitude to the cast and crew members on the project.

“This journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and unwavering dedication, and I couldn’t be more proud to share it with you all. To my incredible cast and crew, thank you for your tireless efforts and belief in this project. And to my fans, my besties, your love and support have been my guiding light through it all,” she said.

Omoni Oboli is no stranger to filmmaking. She’s worked on several movies, including “Moms at War” and “Being Mrs. Elliot.”

The original cast includes Chioma Akpotha, Uche Jombo, Oboli herself, and Ufuoma McDermott. To make things even more exciting, Oboli has added some well-known actresses to the mix. They include Hilda Dokubo, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (KieKie), and May Yul-Edochie. We can expect to see this movie sometime in the last three months of this year (2024)!

This secured Egba’s independence after centuries of subjugation and marked a pivotal moment in Yoruba history.

‘Lisabi: The Uprising’ strengthens Netflix’s Yoruba-language offerings, joining acclaimed titles like Femi Adebayo’s ‘Jagun Jagun’, Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Anikulapo: The Rise of The Spectre’, and Bolanle Austen-Peters’ ‘House of Ga’a’. This trend signals a powerful shift towards epic storytelling in Nigerian cinema.

Al Notions Studios and Anthill Studios collaborate to bring this historical epic to life. Niyi Akinmolayan and Yinka Olaoye pen the script, with Akinmolayan also directing the film. Lateef Adedimeji serves as executive producer.

Kunle Remi Says Not Every Movie Is Cinema-Worthy | fab.ng

Kunle Remi is well-known for his role in the Netflix series “Anikulapo”. He recently expressed his views on what defines a movie as truly cinema-worthy.

In an interview with Hiptv News, the actor stated that many films labelled as cinematic don’t actually meet the standards of true cinema. He highlighted that both audiences and filmmakers often mistake TV-quality productions for cinematic films. This is without fully grasping the elements required to craft a genuine cinematic experience.

“Not everybody understands what cinema is. I don’t think a lot of people understand it in the first place, that is why you have a low-budget film put in the cinemas when it’s not even cinema-worthy. And you see people come for you. There is a difference between a cinematic film and a film for TV,” he said.

In the interview, Kunle mentioned that Kunle Afolayan, the director of “Anikulapo”, creates films with strong cinematic value. He added that Afolayan might not excel as a TV director if placed in that role.

“The moment Nigerians and filmmakers understand that we won’t be having this conversation. Kunle Afolayan for example, does cinema if you look at the quality of his project, the style and effort put into it are cinema. If he does TV films, he might not do so great because he is probably focused or trained to do cinema films,” he added.

Kunle Remi, as an actor, emphasized that he can often tell when a film has been rushed and poorly executed.

He pointed out that some filmmakers might label these films as cinema-worthy, but he can easily identify when they fail to meet that standard.

“TV films are maybe cable films or online TVs and you can tell this was done in 5 days. I’m an actor and I can tell. Sometimes I’m doing a film and they tell me, it’s for the cinemas and I laugh. I know I’m not supposed to but, it’s funny,” he said.

However, he clarified that he is not trying to discourage emerging filmmakers who are still learning the craft. Instead, he urged them to view constructive criticism as valuable feedback rather than taking it personally.

“I can’t discourage anyone cos it might be a starting point for some people do not be angry if people come for you or movie lovers share opinions of your film or critics talk about it cos you can’t then compare it to a Hollywood production,” he concluded.

Kunle Remi gained fame after winning the 7th edition of Gulder Ultimate Search in 2010. This marked the beginning of his acting career. Soon after his victory, he stepped into acting and has since appeared in numerous films. These films include “Ijakumo”, “Falling”, “A Naija Christmas”, “Introducing the Kujus”, and “The Prophetess”.

One Night Guests: Nigerian-Ghanaian film begin production | fab.ng

The production team of “One Night Guests” has announced that principal photography is set to begin soon. The film is a collaboration between Nigerian and Ghanaian filmmakers. During a press conference held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, the filmmakers revealed their plans for the highly anticipated project.

Chris Odeh, a prominent Nollywood producer, shared that the entire film will be shot on location in Lagos. Next, with filming scheduled to start on August 21. The team is working towards an ambitious timeline. And the film is expected to make its grand debut in cinemas across Africa on December 25.

“The idea is to create an African Christmas movie that will resonate well with people. When the director shared this idea with me, I didn’t hesitate to jump on it to make it a reality. I can’t wait for all of you to see it,” he said.

Plot and Production Details of “One Night Guests”

“One Night Guests” tells the story of several individuals whose lives unexpectedly intersect on a fateful Christmas day. What begins as an ordinary morning soon spirals into a series of surprising events. Further, uncovering hidden truths, sparking conflicts, and forging new connections that alter their lives in profound ways.

The film is directed by acclaimed Ghanaian filmmaker, Peter Sedufia. It is a collaborative production involving three major studios: OldFilm Productions from Ghana, Sozo Films from Nigeria, and Gravel Road Studios from South Africa.

“One Night Guests is more than just a film. It is a celebration of African storytelling and the rich cultural heritage that we are so proud to share with the world. We believe that this film will be cherished by families, talked about for years to come, and remembered as a key moment in African cinema. Get ready for an unforgettable experience,” Sedufia said at the press conference.

“Our role in this collaboration has been to ensure that One Night Guests reaches the widest possible audience making it accessible to cinema-goers in anglophone West African countries. We believe in the power of cinema to connect people and this film is poised to do just that offering a unique blend of drama and humour as well as cultural richness that will captivate the audience,” she added.

The film, “One Night Guests” features a star-studded cast. It brings together prominent actors from both Nigeria and Ghana. The lineup includes Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, Warri Pikin, Roselyn Ngissah, James Gardiner, Lasisi Elenu, and Akah Nnani.
