Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok have agreed that music by UMG will be available on TikTok again.
After a disagreement that lasted for months, UMG and TikTok have finally reached a deal. This means that music from artists signed by UMG will be available on TikTok again.
What caused the disagreement?
There were a few reasons why UMG removed its music from TikTok in the first place. UMG felt that TikTok wasn’t paying its artists enough money for using their music (royalties). They were also concerned about how TikTok was using artificial intelligence (AI) and the potential safety issues for users, such as cyberbullying and negative effects on mental health. TikTok argued that UMG was being greedy and that they wouldn’t be pressured into paying more than they thought was fair.
What’s the new deal all about?
The new agreement addresses some of UMG’s concerns. TikTok will pay UMG’s artists and songwriters more money for their music. They will also provide UMG artists with more tools to promote themselves on TikTok. Additionally, both companies will work together to find solutions regarding the use of AI on the platform.
Who benefits from this deal?
This is good news for everyone involved. Artists signed by UMG can now use TikTok again to reach a huge audience and promote their songs. Fans of these artists can enjoy their music on TikTok and interact with them on the platform. Finally, TikTok itself avoids potential problems with the U.S. government by resolving its dispute with a major music label.
One thing to keep in mind…
While UMG and TikTok have settled their differences, there’s still a question mark regarding the future of TikTok in the United States. The U.S. government has ordered TikTok, which is owned by a Chinese company, to sell its U.S. operations or face sanctions. This is a separate issue that will need to be resolved.
