Ayo Edebiri, a Nigerian-American actress, recently shared why she left the Pentecostal church she grew up in.

Edebiri, who won awards for her acting, said her beliefs changed a lot after moving to New York. Raised in a strict religious household by Nigerian immigrant parents, she attended a Pentecostal church with her mom.

The church had strict rules about clothing, not allowing jewellery, revealing clothing, or anything form-fitting. She also found the church’s teachings about the second coming of Jesus to be very anxiety-provoking. One of the things that most bothered her was the idea that her friends who were gay or Muslim wouldn’t go to heaven.

“It was horrible for my anxiety, I was petrified of death. I was petrified of the rapture,” she said.

The church’s teachings, particularly the idea that her LGBTQ+ and Muslim friends wouldn’t go to heaven, really bothered Ayo Edebiri. She found it incredibly stressful and upsetting, causing a major internal struggle. This ultimately led her to take a break from the church and its teachings, only going with her parents occasionally.

However, her decision to step away from that church hasn’t slowed her down one bit. Since becoming a successful actress, she’s become a Hollywood powerhouse.

Her incredible talent has been recognised with prestigious awards—a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, and an Emmy Award—all for her amazing performance in the hit series “The Bear.” It’s clear that while her religious beliefs may have changed, her dedication to her career and her core values haven’t.

Folakemi Falana, Falz’s sister, has come to her brother’s defence in the ongoing dispute with social media personality Verydarkman. Verydarkman has made defamatory claims that Falz and his father helped Bobrisky avoid legal trouble. Folakemi says these accusations are baseless and damaging to her family’s reputation.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Folakemi emphasized her family’s commitment to justice and integrity. She stressed that her brother and father have dedicated their lives to upholding the rule of law and fighting for the rights of the marginalized.

Folakemi argued that these false accusations are harmful to Falz and her father. Also, she stated the accusations undermine their years of hard work and dedication to their profession.

Folakemi Falana called on Verydarkman to retract his defamatory statements and apologize for spreading false information.

She warned that her family would not tolerate such malicious attacks on their character and reputation.

“My parents and our firm, Falana & Falana have been applying for presidential pardons for Nigerians absolutely FREE way before a lot of you were born or before you could talk. Slide 1 is from 2016 and Slide 2 is from 2022. It’s crazy that some Nigerians act like they can’t read or think for themselves. It’s unfortunate.”

Folakemi criticized some Nigerians for their lack of critical thinking. She expressed disappointment that many people are willing to believe unfounded accusations without considering the evidence or the credibility of the source.

“It’s even crazier that all it takes is for a ridiculous character like VDM to accuse my dad and Falz of bribery, corruption and perversion of the course of Justice and you suddenly forget who they are and what they stand for. For him to have the audacity to go as far as even accusing Falz of being homosexual and having an affair with Bobrisky is wild. The fact that some of you actually believe it, is what is blowing my mind…” she added.

She concluded,“Seeing as you have refused to do the needful, @verydarkblackman see you in court.”

Falz Issues Ultimatum To Verydarkman Over Defamatory Statements Against Him

Nigerian rapper Falz has given social media personality Verydarkman a 24-hour ultimatum. He told him to retract defamatory statements accusing him of aiding Bobrisky in dropping money laundering charges.

The ultimatum follows viral audio released by Verydarkman on September 24, 2024. In the video, Bobrisky claimed that some EFCC officers received a ₦15 million bribe to drop the charges against him. Bobrisky also alleged that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and his son helped secure his release from prison.

Verydarkman then made a shocking allegation. He claimed that Falz and his father, renowned SAN Femi Falana, were behind Bobrisky’s ordeal. This allegation sparked widespread discussion and controversy on social media. This made Falz quickly become a trending topic.

In a legal document posted to his Instagram on September 25, 2024, Falz demanded that Verydarkman retract the defamatory statements.

Also, he is to issue a public apology within 24 hours. Falz emphasized that the allegations were false and damaging to his reputation.

Falz has stated that he will take legal action against Verydarkman to protect his name and reputation. This is if Verydarkman fails to comply with the ultimatum.

The statement read in part,

“The entire publication was a vicious, wicked and reckless ploy to impugn the reputation of our client and lower him in the estimation of right-thinking members of the public. We, therefore, demand an immediate retraction of the offensive and derogatory publication as well as an apology prominently published on all the platforms to which you have disseminated it without any justification whatsoever.”

“Be advised that if we do not receive your formal retraction and apology as demanded within 24 (twenty-four) hours of the receipt hereof, we shall proceed with our client’s instructions to seek appropriate legal remedies, including monetary damages, against you for your incendiary publication and dissemination of defamatory statements.”
