Tragedy struck the Nigerian film industry on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, with the passing of veteran Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor. Amaechi Muonagor succumbed to a relentless battle with a combination of health issues, including kidney problems, diabetes, and a previous stroke at the age of 61.

The news comes just days after a heartfelt plea on social media. Amaechi Muonagor bravely reached out to the public, seeking financial help to cover a life-saving kidney transplant. He had been battling kidney problems for some time. In 2023, he suffered a stroke that further complicated his health.
This stroke left him with partial paralysis in his left leg, significantly impacting his mobility.
Determined to fight, he bravely turned to social media, hoping for a miracle.
According to reports, he underwent weekly dialysis treatments. This crucial medical procedure was to help manage his health condition and ensure his body functions properly. Alongside dialysis, he was receiving physiotherapy sessions to control his paralyzed leg.
The news of his passing has spread quickly, leaving fans and fellow actors deeply saddened. Amaechi Muonagor was known for his captivating on-screen presence and his talent for bringing funny characters to life. He had a long and successful career in Nollywood, appearing in numerous films that entertained audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
His role as the father of two young boys who were notorious for their mischief in ‘Aki and Pawpaw brought him great fame.
Amaechi Mounagor leaves behind his wife, Hope Chikodi Muonagor, and their children as his surviving family.
Muonagor’s death comes just weeks after the passing of another beloved Nollywood comedian, John Okafor (better known as Mr. Ibu). This double loss is a significant blow to the Nigerian film industry.
