YouTube has expanded its services and changed its name. Now, people in over 100 countries can use YouTube Music and Premium.

In the last year, YouTube made Premium better. Now, you can watch YouTube on different devices, like smart TVs and tablets. They also improved the video quality to 1080p HD. Speaking about the milestone, Adam Smith, the Vice President of Product Management at YouTube, stated:

“In 2015, we believed that there was an appetite for a YouTube experience that benefited not only our users but the creator and artist community as well, and we announced a new subscription service alongside a brand new app, YouTube Music. This offering was designed for music lovers and YouTube fans who wanted more choice in how they spent time on YouTube, allowing them to enjoy YouTube without interruptions, background play and downloads, and a full music service with the world’s largest catalogue. Along the way, we learned a lot, made a few pivots (and even rebranded), expanded our offerings and plans, and made YouTube Music and Premium available in over 100 countries and regions.

And through it all, we’ve remained focused on delivering a best-in-class experience to our global YouTube community.

In fact, in the past year alone we enhanced the Premium playback experience including adding the ability to continue watching YouTube across different devices like your smart TVs and tablets and introduced an enhanced version of 1080p HD. We also experimented with new generative AI features that Premium users were among the first to try. And for listeners, we introduced the Samples tab, a lightning-fast way to discover new music, a completely customised radio building experience, and brought podcasts to YouTube Music.

Beyond features, we know what truly makes viewers and listeners keep choosing YouTube – it’s the incredible content from our creators and artists. YouTube Premium helps maintain a thriving creator and artist community, providing them with an additional source of revenue from subscriptions.”

Addy Awofisayo, who is in charge of music for Africa at YouTube, also talked about how YouTube is important in Nigeria, saying,

“The success of YouTube Music and Premium extends deeply into Nigeria, where music and content creators have found a global stage for their talent,” Awofisayo remarked. “Our platform has not only facilitated unparalleled access to a world of music and content but has also played a pivotal role in the growth of the Nigerian music industry by providing artists with valuable exposure and revenue streams. This milestone celebrates not just our global achievements but the individual stories of creators and artists in Nigeria who contribute to our rich and diverse community.”

In celebration of this achievement, YouTube has reaffirmed its commitment to providing its users with the best music experience possible. This means continuously working to improve its music streaming service, offering a vast library of songs and videos, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable listening experience for everyone.

Whether you’re a casual listener or a die-hard music fan, YouTube promises to be your go-to destination for discovering and enjoying your favourite tunes.

Burna Boy has had a whirlwind 2024. He made history back in February as the first African artist to perform at the Grammys main ceremony.

At the 66th Grammy Awards, he also became the first Nigerian artist to earn a nomination as a lead artist outside of the Global categories. Furthermore, this solidified his legacy in the global music scene.

So far in 2024, Burna Boy has released only one single, Higher, which resonated deeply with fans. The song’s music video took him on an emotional journey back to his hometown. Higher continued Burna Boy’s streak of chart-topping hits, spending several weeks dominating the TurnTable Top 100.

In addition to his solo work, Burna Boy has made several notable guest appearances throughout the year. His feature on TiTom and Yuppe’s Twala Bam skyrocketed the track to the top of the charts.

Meanwhile, his collaboration with Coldplay on We Pray, featuring Little Simz, shows his versatility and ability to shine in diverse musical genres. Burna Boy’s 2024 continues to be filled with milestones, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s most influential artists.
