According to Harvey Mason, the President of the Recording Academy Board of Trustees, the academy judges each song based on its quality, and it’s the votes of Academy members that decide the winners each year. Mason explained that the academy solely focuses on the song’s quality when determining the winner, disregarding other factors. The Academy’s members consist of music professionals from the United States, and their votes determine the winner in each category.
“It’s not the streams, not how many fans, not how many followers, but purely on the opinion of the membership in that particular year, that is how you win a Grammy,” Mason told Journalist.

He further emphasised that only music professionals, not committees, journalists, or labels, vote for their peers. Discussions about the outcomes of the 66th Grammy Awards persist following the absence of wins for Nigerian artists.
