AFCON 2024: Super Eagles Are Heading For The Finals | Fab.ng

Yay! The Super Eagles have left Nigerians screaming for victory! The ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament witnessed another chapter in the historic rivalry between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. In a tense semi-final clash on Wednesday, what seemed like a tumultuous and directionless match between Nigeria and South Africa turned in favour of Nigeria, booking their place in the tournament’s final.

The encounter at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake lived up to its billing. The adrenaline was massive, especially with the numerous bants that have been ongoing for days on Twitter (now X). The match was a display of skillful attacks and resolute defensive stands from both sides.

The match started with South Africa trying to score a goal, but Stanley Nwabali intercepted with a save.

Aubrey Modiba of South Africa tried a through ball, but the Super Eagles’ defence was good at intercepting the ball. The ball left the pitch, and South Africa swung in the corner, but Sphephelo Sithole failed in his attempt to convert the corner into a goal. He headed it from a dangerous position inside the box, but the ball crossed the line, and Nigeria had a shot at the goal.

After what seemed like a slow and unproductive first half, hope dawned in the second half in favour of the Super Eagles. Troost Ekong of Nigeria scored a penalty goal after Mothobi Mvala of South Africa took down his opponent with a dangerous tackle, giving Nigeria a penalty kick. In the 85th minute, Victor Osimhen fired the ball mercilessly into the net, putting Nigeria at a 2-o, but the joy was shortlived. A VAR review was conducted to check whether or not there was an infringement in the move that resulted in the goal.

The Super Eagles thought they were cruising after goals from William Troost-Ekong and Victor Osimhen, but a dramatic VAR check awarded South Africa a penalty, making it 1-1. Even after extra time, the score remained tied, leaving goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to be the hero. He saved two penalties to secure a 4-2 shootout win and send Nigeria flying! This means they’ll be aiming for their fourth title in the final. It was a wild game, with red cards and VAR drama, but in the end, Nigeria’s penalty power proved too strong!

While Bafana Bafana displayed commendable resilience under pressure, the Super Eagles capitalized on key moments to secure their win. And now, Nigeria is heading to the #AFCON finals! It will be the first AFCON final for the Super Eagles since 2013 when they won the cup.

The big question is: who will they face? Côte d’Ivoire or DR Congo?

Shakira says she loves afrobeats and Burna Boy | Fab.ng

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Shakira, the famous Colombian singer, dished out her love for African music, particularly Afrobeats. She described her musical style as a mix of many influences (eclectic), heartfelt (honest), and true to itself (real).

Shakira wasn’t shy about naming some of her favourite African artists. She gave a shoutout to Burna Boy and also mentioned her excitement about Tyla, a rising South African talent.

She said,

“If I could explain my taste in music in three words, I would say eclectic, honest and real.

I love anything Afrobeats. I like Tyla, I like Burna Boy, anything Afrobeats. But I love Burna so much.”

This isn’t the first time Shakira has shown appreciation for global music. Her career has been full of blending sounds from different cultures, so it makes sense that she would be drawn to the vibrant energy of Afrobeats.

Burna Boy is a heavyweight in the Afrobeats scene, known for his music style and energetic live shows. He’s been selling out stadiums worldwide and making history with his achievements. Tyla, on the other hand, is a new voice coming out of South Africa. Shakira’s acknowledgement of her potential shows that she has a keen eye for spotting rising talent.

Shakira’s love for Afrobeats is a great example of how music can transcend borders and languages.

It shows that good music is good music, no matter where it comes from. Afrobeats has been taking the world by storm in recent years. With artists like Shakira championing the genre, it’s sure to continue growing in popularity.

This love for Afrobeats could also lead to future collaborations between Shakira and some Afrobeats artists. It wouldn’t be surprising to see her team up with Burna Boy on a track. Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: Shakira’s a big fan of Afrobeats, and that’s a great thing for the genre’s global exposure.

Shakira’s song “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” was the official song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. She included a part of a different song in her music.

After the release of his 2023 album “I Told Them,” Burna Boy embarked on an extensive world tour that saw him perform to sold-out crowds in iconic venues across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. The tour showed his global appeal and also reinforced his status as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports.

Burna Boy’s record-breaking achievement in Canada was a significant milestone on this tour.

On June 13, 2024, Touring Data reported that Burna Boy grossed $5.7 million from his Canadian concerts. He sold a total of 69,219 tickets for six shows as part of his “I Told Them” tour, setting a new benchmark for African artists in the country. This record points out his extraordinary ability to attract and engage audiences far from his home continent.

Earlier in the tour, Burna Boy made history by becoming the first African artist to headline the Scotia Bank Arena in Canada. He achieved this remarkable feat by selling out the 19,000-capacity venue on two consecutive nights, February 24 and 25, 2024.

Burna Boy’s groundbreaking success on tour is a testament to his growing influence and leadership in the music industry. He continues to set new standards and break barriers for African artists worldwide.

Burna Boy also made a historic appearance at the Grammy Awards in 2024.

He became the first African artist to perform at the Grammy main ceremony, sharing the stage with 21 Savage and Brandy for a rendition of his hit single “Sittin’ On Top Of The World.” This performance marked a significant moment in the representation of African artists on such a prestigious platform.

Burna Boy also achieved another first at the 66th Grammy Awards by becoming the first Nigerian artist to receive a nomination outside the global categories. His song “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance, further cementing his reputation as a boundary-pushing artist.

Kicking off 2024 on a high note, Burna Boy featured on the remix of Titom & Yuppe‘s “Twala Bam,” which made history by becoming the first South African-led song to reach the top of the TurnTable Top 100 chart.

Indeed, Burna Boy’s achievements in 2024 demonstrate his continuous evolution as a global superstar and his role in paving the way for future generations of African artists. His contributions have elevated African music to unprecedented heights, and his ongoing success is a source of inspiration and pride across the continent and beyond.
