Many couples use Valentine’s Day to express their love through gifts and shared experiences. Sometimes, however, people’s expectations for the day might not be met.
Suppose you’ve shared wishes for gifts or talked about how you’d like to spend Valentine’s Day, but your partner primarily communicates through WhatsApp messages on the actual day. In that case, there’s a chance you might feel disappointed or even question the nature of your relationship.
While communication styles and traditions vary, it’s important to have open and honest conversations with your partner about expectations and desires to ensure a fulfilling and connected Valentine’s Day or any other special occasion.
Come with me as I show you some messages you may get from your partner that would show you are not an important piece in their lives.
1. “I’m travelling for work or have an important deal to close.”
Valentine’s Day lands on a Wednesday this year, which might make some people think it’s a convenient excuse for not spending time together. But it’s important not to jump to conclusions too quickly.
If someone claims they’re travelling for work on Valentine’s Day, it could raise suspicions that they might be cheating on their partner or with their partner.
So, it’s wise to approach such situations cautiously and communicate openly to ensure trust and understanding in the relationship.
2. “I spent all day at the mechanic’s.”
You may receive this message on February 15th because the person couldn’t be reached on Valentine’s Day. Who are you to question the necessity of urgent car repairs?
It’s possible that circumstances prevented them from communicating on Valentine’s Day and addressing car issues could genuinely be a priority.
3. “I had to rush my parents to the hospital.”
Is it fair to be upset about not getting anything for Valentine’s Day when their parents’ lives were in danger? Consider the seriousness of the situation before expressing disappointment. It’s important to prioritise the well-being of loved ones over material gifts on special occasions like Valentine’s Day.
4. “Babe, I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.”
They might express, “I don’t need a special day to show you I love you.” Be cautious of such remarks. When someone genuinely loves another person, they’ll go to great lengths to bring them joy.
Sadly, you might not hold as much significance to them if they’re unwilling to make efforts to show their love on special occasions.
5. “Something came up.”
You might not fully understand the reason behind their absence, but they’ll likely apologise sincerely and vow to compensate for it later. Nevertheless, the romantic Valentine’s Day you anticipated might not materialise.
And if absolutely nothing occurs—no calls, no texts, no explanations—then it’s possible you’ve been essentially celebrating Valentine’s Day alone.
