Six days ago, CBS revealed the initial performers for the 2024 Grammy Awards, which included Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Recently, they expanded the lineup by adding three more artists: Travis Scott, Luke Combs, and Burna Boy. This addition is to boost diversity in terms of gender, musical genre, and racial representation at the highly anticipated Music’s Biggest Night.

The official announcement occurred during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s NFL football game between Kansas City and Buffalo. Notably, this follows a pattern set last week, where performer announcements were also made during the fourth quarter of the AFC wild-card game. CBS, the long-standing broadcaster of the Grammys since 1973, showcased both games.

All three newly introduced performers are currently nominated for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Travis Scott, with a notable 10 nominations, is vying for Best Rap Album for “Utopia” and had a prior nomination in the same category for his studio album “Astroworld.” Despite the numerous nods, Scott is yet to secure a win.

Luke Combs, on the other hand, is contending for Best Country Solo Performance with his rendition of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” This nomination marks his seventh, with a previous attempt for Best New Artist five years ago, losing to Dua Lipa. Both artists have experienced exceptional success in the subsequent five years.

Burna Boy, the third addition, is a nominee in four categories: Best Global Music Album (“I Told Them…“), Best African Music Performance (“City Boys“), Best Global Music Performance (“Alone“), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World“). Notably, he clinched the Best Global Music Album three years ago for “Twice as Tall.”

Expectations for collaborative performances are heightened, especially given Luke Combs’ rendition history and the song “Fast Car” being the closing performance at the Grammy telecast in February 1989 by Tracy Chapman.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 4, airing live on CBS from 8:00-11:30 p.m. ET/5:00-8:30 p.m. PT. The event will be available for live streaming and on-demand on Paramount+ for subscribers with Showtime, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the broadcast.

Fulwell 73 Productions will produce the telecast for the Recording Academy for the fourth consecutive year, with Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor, and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers.

Big Brother Naija “Shine Ya Eye” winner Whitemoney, also known as Hazel Oyeze Onou, recently explained why he skipped the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The AMVCA took place on Saturday, with celebrities rocking stunning outfits on the red carpet at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. Vee, for example, wowed in an all-pink lace gown with a flowing cape and matching gloves.

In a video on his Instagram page, Whitemoney revealed that the high cost of attending the AMVCA was a major factor in his absence. He explained that creating an AMVCA-worthy outfit can cost millions of Naira, not even including stylist fees! Feeling the pressure to look his best, and since he doesn’t identify as an actor, Whitemoney opted to skip the event altogether.

On a separate note, Whitemoney also urged his fellow celebrities to pay the designers behind their extravagant AMVCA looks to avoid any awkward situations.

He said,

“I’ve been getting calls about my absence from the AMVCA. How would I go, are you not seeing what these brothers are wearing? Take a look at Neo Akpofure’s dress. Elozonam was dripping in an all-white outfit, like an angel deported from heaven to go create his own heaven on earth. Saga was like all these pink Barbie gentlemen. His dress was awesome.”

“I can’t match their styles. To make an outfit befitting for the AMVCA, you would spend not less than one million naira, and you will still have to pay for a stylist. I’m not an actor, so I’m not even bothered.”

“AMVCA na pressure. Imagine paying over a million naira for a dress you would only wear once. The ladies were just killing it. Next year we move. I can’t relate. But please, make sure you pay your designers in full to avoid them calling you out on social media.”
