Funke Akindele‘s film, “A Tribe Called Judah“, has achieved the status of the highest-grossing Nollywood title to date, accumulating over ₦854 million in less than three weeks, as reported by Akindele on X (formerly Twitter).
While the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) data, up until December 21, indicated a cumulative gross of just under ₦237 million, Akindele’s updated figure accounts for the surge in cinema ticket sales during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Akindele, known for her strategic approach to the Nigerian box office, has consistently delivered successful films, deviating from Western trends and adapting to the evolving media landscape.
Building on her fame from the iconic “Jenifa” franchise over a decade ago, Akindele has continued to set records with films like “Battle on Buka Street” (₦668 million) and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” (₦636 million).
In recent projects, including “A Tribe Called Judah”, Akindele explores narratives addressing the ethnic divide in Nigeria, a timely theme amid the heightened consciousness during the 2023 election year. Notably, Akindele ventured into politics, campaigning for the position of deputy governor of Lagos.
“A Tribe Called Judah” depicts the story of five brothers from the same mother, each with a different ethnic father, planning a robbery with their mother’s assistance.
The film, currently showing in the UK, features Akindele, Jide Kene Achufusi, Timini Egbuson, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, and Olumide Oworu in key roles.
