Spotify's Afrobeats Celebration In Lagos | Fab.ng

Spotify Afrobeats Celebration took place on October 12 and 13, 2023. Spotify hosted two experiential events, #SpotifyPodcastsLagos and #SpotifyAfrobeats, to celebrate its milestone achievement.

The event brought together celebrities, podcasters, influencers, music executives, media personalities, and music fans. It was held at La Madison Place in Lekki, Lagos, and beautifully celebrated the rich culture of Afrobeats and its remarkable achievements over the years.

During the Spotify Afrobeats Celebration, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Spotify’s Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized Spotify’s commitment to connecting people with the music they love.

She reinforced their dedication to fostering the growth of the music ecosystem in Nigeria and across Africa,

“Spotify’s commitment to connecting people with the music they love is at the heart of everything we do. We’re thrilled to continue celebrating Afrobeats’ milestones and reinforce our commitment to the growth of the music ecosystem in Nigeria and across Africa.”

The two-day celebration started with a masterclass session led by Ncebakazi Manzi, Spotify’s Podcast Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.

This session provided a platform for podcast enthusiasts to delve into the art of storytelling, explore innovative techniques and insights, and gain a deeper understanding of Spotify’s support for podcast creators.

Further, a fireside chat moderated by Gwenevier Ehimen Lem from the Association of African Podcasters and Voiceover Artists featured a panel of industry experts, including Tony Doe from “Into The Podverse and Tony Doe Media”Ayomide Tayo from “Loose Talk”Dami Aros from “So Nigerian”, and Fay Fay, the founder of “Naija Podhub”.

The attendees were then treated to engaging live podcast recordings, featuring renowned Nigerian content creators Jola Ayeye and Feyikem Abudu from “I Said What I Said” and Joey Akan from “Afrobeats Intelligence“.

In a conversation with Victor Okpala, Spotify’s Artist and Label Partnerships Manager for West Africa, Joey Akan delved into various topics, including the success of Afrobeats and Spotify’s contributions to the music ecosystem.

The “I Said What I Said” live show featured artists Nissi and Pheelz and concluded with a live Q&A session.

The event culminated in an electrifying performance by Pheelz.

On the second day, the Afrobeats Celebration commenced with an electric atmosphere and captivating performances that thrilled the large gathering of Afrobeats enthusiasts.

The dance floor came alive with energy, and DJ Tohbad set the stage with a continuous flow of chart-topping tracks by Nigerian artists, creating infectious enthusiasm throughout the room.

The night’s performances featured a mix of emerging and established artists from Nigeria.

Bloody Civilian, a Spotify RADAR Africa artist, had the audience singing along to her hit songs, which included “I Don’t Like You“.

FAVE, a Spotify EQUAL artist, mesmerized the crowd with songs like ‘Baby ‘Riddim”, “Beautifully“, and “Mr Man“.

The emerging Nigerian Street Pop singer, Shallipopi, lit up the stage with different hits.

Sarz, the DJ, producer, and mixing engineer, delivered a dynamic set that had the audience vibing.

Ruger, the sensational Nigerian singer, closed the night with his unique style.

The venue was illuminated with warm, gentle lighting, highlighting Spotify’s brand image, while the stage featured mesmerizing visual projections that highlighted details about the Afrobeats genre.

Spotify’s Afrobeats Celebration surpassed merely a music event; it became a celebration of culture, diversity, and the unifying power of music.

With 15 billion streams and counting, Spotify continues to shape the future of the music industry, and this journey is just the beginning, promising exciting developments in the world of music.
