The Nigerian crime thriller “The Black Book” is currently ranked tenth on Netflix’s list of the most-watched English films worldwide, down from its prior ranking of third place. It continues to hold the title of highest-charting African title on Netflix despite this decline in ranking.
From October 2, 2023, to October 8, 2023, ‘The Black Book’ was seen 3.7 million times for a total of 7.7 million hours. This is a considerable drop from its remarkable 21.3 million hours viewed from 11.2 million total views in its second week of distribution, which took place between September 25, 2023, and October 1, 2023.
The film, which has sparked debates across the globe, tells the tale of a man whose son is wrongfully accused and executed for kidnapping. The father, now a deacon and retired, takes on a dubious organization and a corrupt police gang in an effort to clear his son’s identity.
With 69 countries currently offering streaming access, the film is still doing very well in South Korea, the US, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Kenya, Martinique, Panama, Poland, Romania, Venezuela, and, most significantly, Nigeria.
Editi Effiong is the director of “The Black Book” which is produced by Anakle Films. Renowned actors including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Olumide Oworu, Sam Dede, Shaffy Bello, Iretiola Doyle, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Ade Laoye, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Patrick Doyle, and Bimbo Manuel are among the cast’s remarkable members. Its influence and importance in the global streaming scene are still very much present.
