AKON, the global music legend is set to host the 2023 African Cup of Nations draw. The draw event will occur at the new Parc Des Expositions in Abidjan today, October 12, 2023.

AKON, the renowned Senegalese artist, will co-host the ceremony with former Cote d’Ivoire captain, Yaya Toure, promising to bring an extra touch of glamour to this event that almost everyone has looked forward to.

During the draw, the 24 nations that have qualified will discover their group-stage opponents. The draw ceremony is expected to be broadcast in over 50 countries, attracting millions of viewers across the globe.

The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.

Who is hosting the 2023 African Cup of Nations?

Ivory Coast will host the 2023 African Cup of Nations and they will participate in the qualifiers regardless of the team being guaranteed a spot in the finals.

This is because the qualifiers also serve as a ranking tournament for the other teams in the group. The highest-ranked team in each group (apart from Ivory Coast) will qualify for the finals.

This is a common practice in international football tournaments. For example, in the UEFA European Championship, the host country always qualifies automatically for the finals. However, the host country still participates in the qualifiers, and the other teams in the group compete for the remaining qualification spots.

The reason for this is that the qualifiers are seen as an important part of the preparation process for the tournament. They give the teams a chance to play competitive matches against a variety of opponents, and they also help to determine the seedings for the final tournament.

So, while Ivory Coast is already guaranteed a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals, the team will still participate in the qualifiers. The other teams in the group will be competing for the remaining qualification spots.

Which teams are in the African Cup of Nations 2023?

The following teams have qualified for the finals of the 2023 African Cup of Nations which is scheduled to be hosted from January 13 to February 11 by Cote d’Ivoire:

  • Algeria
  • Angola
  • Burkina Faso
  • Cameroon
  • Cape Verde
  • Congo DR
  • Egypt
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • The Gambia
  • Ghana
  • Guinea
  • Guinea-Bissau

The draw ceremony will be streamed live on CAF’s YouTube channel and CAF’s global TV partners.

Taiwo Awoniyi Sets A Premier League Record | Fab.ng

Nigeria’s star striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has etched his name in the English Premier League history books. He recently claimed the coveted title of “Highest Shot Conversion Rate” since the previous season commenced. His impressive feat has turned heads across the league, solidifying his position as a player to watch.

Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian striker, is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Liverpool.

Despite being sidelined for 12 games due to injuries, he has delivered an impressive performance on the pitch.

In fact, his performance has surpassed that of other well-known players. One of the players is Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker who currently plays for Borussia Dortmund. Others include Hee-Chan Hwang from RB Leipzig, Callum Wilson from Newcastle United, Diogo Jota from Liverpool, and Ivan Toney from Brentford.

Taiwo Awoniyi is currently firing on all cylinders. Reports reveal a remarkable shot conversion rate of 28.6%. This shot conversion exceeds even the prolific Erling Haaland of Manchester City, whose rate sits at 26.1%.

What makes this feat even more impressive? While Haaland boasts a higher total of 52 goals since last season, Awoniyi has achieved his success with just 16 goals. This means he’s making the most of his chances, converting them into goals at a rate that surpasses even some of the league’s top scorers.

Following his triumphant return from injury, Taiwo Awoniyi has been on a tear for Nottingham Forest. He has netted twice in his last five matches. His crucial opening goal in the 2-0 triumph over West Ham United proved instrumental in propelling the team further away from the dreaded relegation zone.

While his dream of representing Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON tournament may have been put on hold, Taiwo Awoniyi’s unwavering commitment to his club is evident.

As the team gears up for a Premier League clash against Aston Villa, all eyes will be glued to Awoniyi. Football stans are eager to see if he can maintain his exceptional form.

These preliminary fixtures promise to be a thrilling prelude to the main event as each team strives to earn their place among the elite contenders for the prestigious AFCON 2025 (Africa Cup of Nations) title.

According to CAF, “a total of 52 nations will be engaged for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifiers.”

The qualifiers will begin with a preliminary stage.

During this stage, the eight nations that are ranked the lowest according to the FIFA Rankings will compete against each other in matches that involve two legs. This means that each team will play one match at their home stadium and one away. Only the four teams that emerge victorious from this stage will advance to join the other 44 teams in the group stage. In the group stage, all 48 teams will compete to qualify for the main tournament.
