Nollywood actress Uzoamaka Onuoha won the Best Female Performance in a Feature award at the recently concluded African Film Festival on November 9, 2024.

This victory adds another accolade to her growing list of achievements, solidifying her status as one of Nollywood’s rising stars.

With over three nominations under her belt this year, Uzoamaka Onuoha truly stood out for her remarkable portrayal in “Agemo”.

Directed by Moshood Abiola Obatula, the film takes viewers on a thrilling journey. It follows the character Agatha navigating a dangerous and enigmatic world.

By highlighting the challenges faced by women, Agemo delves deep into the complexities of power dynamics, manipulation, and the severe consequences of exploiting the vulnerable.

Playing the lead role, Onuoha delivers a powerful performance that captures the character’s resilience and depth. This recognition comes as no surprise given her impressive track record.

This includes standout roles in Inside Life (2022), If I Am President (2018), and Blood Sisters (2022). With each project, she continues to showcase her versatility and dedication to her craft.

Although Agemo initially released its first-look images in December 2023, the full film is set to premiere to the public later this year.

Written by Esther Olayinka, the supernatural feature boasts a stellar ensemble cast. The cast includes Raphael Ayara, Joe Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Mojisola Afolayan, Kola Olaiya, Lawal Aramide Pabira, and Darasimi Madi.

Together, they bring to life a story that explores complex themes and leaves a lasting impact on viewers.

Netflix: Nollywood Stars Shine At Lights, Camera… Naija! | fab.ng

On November 2, 2024, Nollywood took centre stage as Netflix hosted its much-anticipated annual celebration, “Lights, Camera…Naija!”

The event dedicated the night to honouring the industry’s Pioneers, Pillars, and Players. With this, it created an unforgettable tribute to the heart and soul of Nollywood.

With a dynamic blend of cinematic magic and stunning fashion, the evening showcased the very essence of Nigerian cinema.

Guests arrived dressed to impress in cabaret-chic outfits, flaunting everything from sequined gowns to bold tailored suits. As they entered, they were warmly welcomed by the charismatic host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

Known for his magnetic personality, Ebuka enthralled attendees with his engaging commentary. This added an extra layer of excitement and made the event truly memorable.

Netflix placed the spotlight on three critical groups within Nollywood this year. The Pioneers—those who laid the foundation of Nollywood in its early days—received well-deserved recognition.

Meanwhile, the Pillars, representing the talented off-screen professionals, were celebrated for their essential contributions behind the scenes.

Finally, the Players, Nollywood’s vibrant on-screen talent, were honoured for captivating audiences across the globe.

Adding a touch of official recognition, the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa graced the occasion. Warmly, Netflix’s VP of Content for the Middle East and Africa, Ben Amadasun welcomed him.

Throughout the night, live performances by rising music sensation Victony and the energetic Sharpband electrified the atmosphere, filling the room with vibrant melodies and lively beats.

As the evening progressed, it became clear that this year’s edition of “Lights, Camera…Naija!” was not only a celebration of Nollywood’s creativity.

Also, it is a powerful showcase of the artistry and community that continue to drive the industry forward. This dazzling event highlighted Netflix’s commitment to celebrating and supporting Nollywood’s thriving legacy.
