The former UN Secretary-General,  Koffi Annan who died on Saturday August 18th 2018 was one of the world’s most celebrated diplomats and a charismatic symbol of the United Nations.

He was born in Ghana, but he had international background
Annan was born in 1938 to a prominent family in Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city. The son of the governor of the Ashanti province under British colonial rule, Annan attended top schools in Ghana, Switzerland and the United States.

Annan started his U.N. career at just 24, working as an administrator at the World Health Organization. He quickly rose through the ranks, serving as head of personnel for the U.N. mission in Cairo, deputy director of the UNHCR in Geneva, and deputy U.N. secretary-general and under-secretary-general for peacekeeping.

In 1997, he was elected secretary-general, making him the first person from Sub-Saharan Africa to hold the position.

He sought to implement a new vision for the U.N.
In his opening speech as U.N. secretary-general, Annan spoke of his goals to shape global politics as well as carry out administrative tasks. His original agenda ranged from fighting global poverty and AIDS to addressing global warming.

In 2001, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to both Annan and the United Nations. Gunnar Berge, the chairman of the Oslo-based panel, said in an interview at the time that Annan was

“an excellent representative of the United Nations and probably the most effective secretary-general in its history.”

Mr. Annan is the founding Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), which works for a food secure and prosperous Africa by promoting rapid, sustainable agricultural growth based on smallholder farmers.

After he left his job, he still continued to serve
Annan stepped down from his post in 2006 but continued to hold an influential role in international diplomacy.

In 2007, Annan acted as negotiator when post-election violence broke out in Kenya between the government and the opposition. In February 2012, he was named special representative in the Syrian Civil War but stepped down six months later. Most recently, he headed an expert commission to determine a solution to violence against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar in 2017. In 2013, Annan became chair of the Elders, a group of retired world diplomats who meet regularly and plan discreet interventions in world conflicts, founded by Nelson Mandela.

Annan was known for his modesty
When accepting his Nobel Peace Prize, Annan said,

“This award belongs not just to me. I do not stand here alone. On behalf of my colleagues in every part of the United Nations, in every corner of the globe, who have devoted their lives – and in many instances risked or given their lives in the cause of peace – I thank the Members of the Nobel Prize Committee for this high honor.”

VeryDarkMan missing N180m: Police deny investigating | fab.ng

Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, sparked a social media frenzy on Friday when he announced that his NGO’s account had been hacked, resulting in the theft of ₦180 million.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stated that it does not know about the missing ₦180 million from his non-governmental organisation’s bank account, as reported on its website.

In an Instagram video, VeryDarkMan explained that the hackers had compromised the account and left only ₦20 million after making away with the substantial sum.

He detailed the incident, expressing his shock and disappointment at the breach.

I’ve not been myself these past few days.

Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and ₦180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested.

The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s ₦20 million left, while ₦160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.

He stated that the incident had been reported to the police, who are actively working to recover the stolen funds.

However, when contacted on Saturday, FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh clarified that the command does not know the case. Adeh firmly emphasised this point in her response.

The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it.

The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.

Social media users have widely challenged VeryDarkMan’s account theft claims, expressing doubts about the reported ₦180 million loss.

The FCT Police Command’s statement denying knowledge of the incident has intensified public scrutiny of Otse’s allegations.

Online commentators have specifically questioned the origin and documentation of the funds. Also, they have questioned the technical details of the alleged cyber attack.

Makeup is a great way to enhance your natural beauty and add a touch of holiday glamour. Experiment with bold lips, shimmery eyeshadow, and dramatic eyeliner.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try a smoky eye or a colourful eyeliner. These looks are perfect for a holiday party or a night out.

Don’t forget about your skin! A flawless complexion is the foundation of any great makeup look. Use a hydrating moisturiser, a primer, and a long-lasting foundation to create a smooth, even canvas.

3. Accessorise with Holiday Cheer

Accessories are the perfect way to add a touch of personality to your holiday look. A statement necklace, a pair of sparkly earrings, or a festive hair accessory can instantly elevate your outfit.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match different accessories. A bold necklace, a delicate bracelet, and a pair of statement earrings can create a stunning look.

5 Budget Ideas For A Date Night

5 Budget Ideas For A Date Night | fab.ng

In the dynamics of Lagos dating, finding budget ideas for date night has transformed into an extreme social challenge rather than a genuine opportunity to connect with a potential partner.

As social media escalates dating complexities, many individuals now prefer solitary comfort over navigating these intricate social interactions.

The prevalent pressure to demonstrate financial prowess through extravagant dates mystifies many. Budget ideas for date night are all about prioritising character and shared values over monetary displays.

While those with substantial resources can indulge in lavish experiences, creativity and thoughtfulness remain paramount for couples with limited financial means.

The essence of budget ideas for date night isn’t about minimising expenses but maximising meaningful experiences through innovative planning.

By focusing on generating memorable moments, couples can transcend financial constraints and cultivate genuine connections.

Budget ideas for date night ultimately revolve around understanding your partner’s interests, designing unique experiences, and investing emotional rather than purely financial capital into the relationship.

The goal is crafting an environment where genuine connection and mutual enjoyment take precedence over superficial expenditures.

1. Cook Together at Home

Budget ideas for date night start right in your kitchen! Instead of expensive restaurants, create a cosy evening by showcasing culinary skills. Collaborate on preparing a delightful meal together, selecting a recipe you both enjoy.

Whether preparing puff puff, traditional swallow, or a simple stir-fry pasta, the cooking process becomes a fun, romantic, and memorable experience while saving money.

2. Picnic

Another excellent budget idea for date night involves a frugal outdoor adventure. Carefully select your location, check the weather, and collaboratively prepare a shared picnic list.

Include cards, an interesting book, a speaker for music, a blanket, and food items. The key is simplicity and connection – enjoy relaxed conversation without financial strain.

3. Take a Walk

You can do something as simple as a leisurely walk. Hold hands, enjoy nature’s beauty, and connect intimately without spending money.

This underrated date option allows couples to explore each other’s company while getting exercise. In Lagos, consider adding street food to enhance the walking experience.

Pro Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes.

4. Movie Date

Budget ideas for date night can transform your living room into a cinema. Use Netflix, rearrange furniture, add blankets and pillows, prepare snacks, and dim lights for a cosy experience. For added fun, act out your favourite movie scenes and share laughs.

5. Double Date

Split expenses with another couple to enjoy a nice location without financial pressure. Ensure the other couple are good friends with both partners to maintain comfort and avoid awkwardness.

If you cannot cover full expenses, discuss splitting costs transparently with your partner. Avoid surprising your partner with unexpected expenses.

Remember, creativity and thoughtfulness define a successful budget date. Quality time matters more than monetary expenditure.
