5 Great Tourist Destinations To Visit in Nigeria

Published

Tourist Destinations To Visit in Nigeria

Nigeria has tourist destinations one must visit. Take a look at any of these nature’s spots and book a vacation date with your friends and loved ones.  Tourism and vacations are among the things people love engaging in, especially in civilized societies. This is because of the colour and richness they add to life.

It is also noted to relief one of stress in a fast-paced society like ours. It is one thing to intend going for sight-seeing, and it’s another to know the right and most enjoyable places to visit.

Nigeria is one of the countries of the world that is blessed with unique tourist attractions. In fact, tourism is one of the major sources of revenue in Nigeria. It is quite unfortunate that many Nigerians are missing out in these blessings left for our own enjoyment by God.

It is also surprising that some foreigners are even in better positions to tell an average Nigerian the most interesting places to visit in his own country.

I term it ‘unfortunate’ if you fail to visit any of these places I present to you below:

1. Olumo Rock (Ogun state)

Visit Olumo rock and you’ll be left many days pondering over the wonders lavished on the earth that we are living in.

Olumo rock is located in Abeokuta town of Ogun state.’ Abeokuta’ is a name which means ‘Under the Rock’. The town itself has a considerable deposit of huge rocky mountains, but the most thrilling of all its that of Olumo. Don’t dare miss it!

2. Obudu Mountain Resort (Cross River state)

When it comes to sites worthy of beholding, the Obudu Mountain Resort Ranks top in the list.

I’ve been there personally and I bet You will want to become a full-time vacationer by the time you set your foot at the Obudu Mountain Resort.

The good thing about this tourist site is the variety you find there. The awesome landscape view from the cable car, the waterfalls, the specially cool temperature, the canopy walkway… It’s such a dazzling experience that you’ll regret missing it even while in the grave!

3. Yankari National Park (Bauchi state)

Yankari is one of the most popular destinations of tourists in Nigeria. Do not allow the current insecurity in the Northern Nigeria to deter you from getting to see this rare game park.

A lot of the endangered species of animals scarcely found anywhere in the country are actually still in existence at Yankari National Park. You will get to see some animals you never dreamed were even in existence. The wonderful thing about the entire story is the way these animals are kept and taken care of in large numbers like they’ve never been wild animals.

This is just a tip of the iceberg; don’t stay back, you need to see for yourself.

4. Waterfall Arochukwu Town (Abia state)

Tourists at the waterfall from the Arochukwu Agbama cave

The ancient town of Arochukwu may be the last place to ever cross your mind when it comes to touring, but I tell you that you’ve missed something great for so long and should not continue to.

If you are someone who values and cherishes nature and rich culture, Arochukwu is one of the best places for you to see. There are caves, waterfalls, and lots of mind-blowing nature wonders and structures of our cultural heritage there.

5. Idanre Hills (Ondo state)

Here is another place worthy of visiting before one says farewell to this world. The Oke Idanre hill consists of high plain with spectacular valleys interspersed with inselbergs (isolated hills and mountains) of about 3,000 ft above sea level. Its physical attributes include Owa’s Palace, Shrines, Old Court, Belfry, Agbooogun foot print, thunder water (Omi Aopara) and burial mounds and grounds.

It also has diverse and variegated eco-systems of flora and fauna. One of the most significant sites that will surely catch your fancy is the unreadable letters, believed to be a mysterious handwriting inscribed on the rock, which could not be deciphered or read and interpreted by anyone since it was noticed conspicuously on the rock.

Also, there is the Arun River, which is believed to have the natural power to heal all kinds and manners of ailments and diseases, and it has been visited by many people over the years.
