Published

on

The movie which premiered yesterday 24th March at the cinemas was directed by Ike Nnaebue while Dayo Amusa remained the executive producer. Amusa’s production is a thrilling and insightful marital story intricately woven on the life of a famous celebrity lady – her pains and travails in having the desired picture-perfect life of the ordinary human.

“Rita Shonibare, a renowned TV star, is caught in a web of confusion as she makes a compromise on her budding career so as to overcome her marital ordeals resulting from her wayward and inconsiderate husband, who explores her status to his own devious means.

“Pathetic” deftly portrays in a subtle and fascinating fashion, the mischievous ways the celebrities are explored by the media, the outsiders and pathetically, their most trusted loved ones, who regard them as preys to be feasted upon at their slightest means.”

Nollywood films “Over the Bridge,” “This Is Lagos,” and “Dynamite” will be shown at the New York African Film Festival (NYAFF). It began on Wednesday, May 8, and will continue until May 14.

The festival features African and diaspora films in the United States. This offers viewers a varied array of stories from Africa and its diaspora. Established in 1993, NYAFF has become a platform for showcasing films that explore various aspects of African history and contemporary life.

This year’s festival is themed “Convergence of Time.”

It explores the intersection of historical and modern narratives portrayed by artists representing Africa and its diaspora. The opening night film, “Over the Bridge,” will be screened at the Walter Reade Theatre at Lincoln Centre. This takes place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. There will be a Q&A session with the film’s director, Tolu Ajayi, on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

“Over the Bridge” is the story of Folarin Marinho, whom Ozzy Agu played. In the movie, he is an investment banker grappling with alcoholism and panic attacks. The film received 12 nominations at the AMVCA, including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Lead Actress.

Kenneth Gyang’s “This Is Lagos” centres on Stevo (Gabriel Afolayan), a rapper facing the repercussions of his criminal past after a botched heist. The film garnered nominations in four categories at the 2024 AMVCA.

Actor Femi Adebayo Speaks On High Rate Of Film Piracy

Actor Femi Adebayo Speaks On High Rate Of Film Piracy | Fab.ng

Nollywood star Femi Adebayo is fuming mad about film piracy in Nigeria. He recently took to Instagram to blast the issue. He shared his experience of battling pirates who were illegally distributing one of his films.

Femi Adebayo feels strongly that film piracy is hurting the entire Nollywood industry. Filmmakers are putting a lot of effort and money into their projects, but piracy is cutting into their profits.

He believes everyone in the industry must fight back against intellectual property theft and piracy in any way they can.

He wrote,

“The Nigerian film industry has experienced exponential growth over the years, but we haven’t been able to maximize the true dividends of this business because of dare devil pirates who benefit where they didn’t sow. This is a major reason why investors find it hard to commit their funds to filmmakers. However, through persistence and the use of the legal framework covering intellectual property, we can bring their activities to a gradual halt.”

“Several times, I have been a victim of movie pirates and I never spared them. I recently concluded a legal battle with a notable media company that owns a big radio station and also engages in YouTube content distribution. During the cinema run of “Survival of Jelili” in 2019, my movie was gathering good numbers at that time. They decided to use my movie poster and title to promote a movie on their platform, thereby deceiving fans and diverting revenue accrued to me.”

“It took 3 years, but my trust in the legal and justice system remained unwavering. With the dedication of our legal team, Bola Adebowale & Co. Legal Practitioners, who are seasoned professionals with wealth of experience in handling such cases. They presented undeniable evidence, put up a strong argument, and took the case to trial. Their promptness, efficiency, and attention to detail played a huge part in the direction of the case. We won and were awarded a total of Twenty-Five naira. This isn’t just my win as a filmmaker and content producer but a win for all of Nollywood. Every win brings us closer to protecting and getting the true economic value of our works.”
