Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Honoured With Global Fairness Award

Former minister of finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was on Thursday, December 1, honored with the Global Fairness Award in Washington DC, United States.

The award was presented to her by the Global Fairness Initiative in recognition of her contribution to sustainable development, through serving others, and her consistent focus on implementing development programs that benefit the poor and less privileged.

Speaking at the event in Washington DC, the former minister expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue to fight for fairness for the less privileged.

“I appreciate the Trustees of the Global Fairness Award for recognizing a lifetime devoted to development, including the privilege I have now of working for children’s immunization, through GAVI, and for managing climate risk in Africa through the African Risk Capacity. Let 2017 be a year of continued fight for fairness for the most vulnerable among us, and those left behind in this world,” she said.

Other recipients of the award include Dr. Cristina Liamzon, a development consultant, and Randi Weingarten, an American labor leader, attorney, and educator.

The Global Fairness Initiative is a not-for-profit international organization that promotes a more equitable, sustainable approach to economic development, ensuring that benefits and prosperity are extended to all people, including the working poor.

Some of the notable personalities that have been recognized and honored with the Global Fairness Award include Robert Bruce Zoellick, the eleventh president of the World Bank, & former managing director of Goldman Sachs and Joyce Hilda Banda, former President of Malawi.

The Nile Media Entertainment team has launched a new voucher system called “Atlas by Reach.” They’re using the upcoming movie “The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3” by Omoni Oboli to promote it.

The team announced the launch on their official Instagram page.

“We launched a foremost and innovative voucher system for producers and filmmakers across Nigeria and beyond.

The voucher system called ‘Atlas by Reach’ was launched with @omonioboli’s highly anticipated “THE UPRISING :Wives on Strike 3” film and it makes it easy to pre-order tickets before showtime. Anyone (Influencers, Celebrities, Staff, Lovers etc.) can buy tickets to a movie in advance, they can also gift the tickets to others,” the post said.

Moses Babatope is the CEO of Nile Media Entertainment Group. He believes that the new voucher system will increase sales and boost the country’s economy.

On July 10, 2024, Omoni Oboli showed a short video of her new movie “Wives on Strike 3.” The first “Wives on Strike” movie came out in 2016. The second one, “Wives on Strike: The Revolution,” came out in 2018.

The movie is about a group of women who refuse to have sex with their husbands until the husbands help a young girl whose father forced her to marry an older man. This is also a protest against violence against women in the community.

The movie is funny but also starts a serious discussion about important issues women face. It will be in theaters on October 18, 2024. The movie stars Chioma Akpotha, Uche Jombo, Omoni Oboli, Ufuoma McDermott, Hilda Dokubo, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (KieKie), and May Yul-Edochie.

The series takes place in Lagos. It follows characters in the city’s tough prison system. One man fights to stay alive. A sister works hard to get justice for her brother. An ambitious woman faces her own battles. All these stories come together with mystery and supernatural events. The series shows a darker side of Lagos that few know about.

Many famous actors star in the show. Gabriel Afolayan plays a main role. Scarlett Gomez also brings her talent to the screen. Meg Otanwa joins the impressive cast.
