FG To Unveil Agricultural City In The FCT

The Federal Government, yesterday, disclosed its plan to unveil agriculture city in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory to engage youth in agribusiness.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said this while reiterating government’s resolve to give a new lease of life to young people across the country with new approach to agribusiness. Ogbeh said the Ministry have already acquired the land for multipurpose agricultural practice and clearing of the land has commenced.

He said: “We intend to launch a youth in agriculture programme, a piece of land was acquired by Aso Savings, we are entering into partnership with Aso Savings to clear and lease out the land to young farmers. “The whole area is 15,000 hectares, there are about 17 rivers and streams there, which we are going to dam, creating lakes and providing facilities for irrigation for all year round farming. We shall develop it into small agriculture city providing accommodation, processing and security.

” The Minister also said that the young farmers who get farming plots there will engage in fish production, poultry, livestock management and grains production. He also stated that the Ministry will subsidize the land acquisition for the youths and also engage in buy back clause of the farm products produced from the farms, thereby creating market for the products.

Meanwhile, he said about 42 investors will flood the agricultural sector soon from the European Union to do business in the country. The Minister also said that some of the investors has expressed interest in investing massively in the Nigerian agricultural sector. According to him (Ogbeh) the investors made their intention known during the last visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Germany, adding that they are confident that the security challenges in Nigeria have been contained.

Netflix has significantly increased its subscription fees for Nigerian users. This marks the second time the popular streaming platform has raised prices in just three months. The substantial hike, impacting all subscription tiers, has drawn criticism from subscribers already burdened by the rising cost of living.

With this latest adjustment, Netflix joins a growing list of companies increasing their prices in Nigeria. This adds to the financial strain on consumers.

“As we continue to add more TV shows and movies and introduce new product features, our plans and prices may change. We also may adjust plans and pricing to respond to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation,” it said in a statement on its website.

Netflix has recently revised its pricing structure in Nigeria, affecting all four of its subscription plans.

The mobile plan, which allows one user to watch on a mobile device, has seen a significant price increase from ₦1,200 to ₦2,200, representing an 83% rise.

The basic plan’s monthly cost has gone up from ₦2,900 to ₦3,500. For the standard subscription, which offers HD quality viewing on two devices simultaneously, the price has increased from ₦4,000 to ₦5,000 per month.

The premium plan, providing Ultra HD quality on four devices at once and download options for six devices, will now cost ₦7,000 per month.

Netflix has been implementing similar price adjustments in other international markets. United States, the United Kingdom, and France, all inclusive.

This price increase comes at a challenging time for Nigeria. This is because the country is currently dealing with rising inflation and a cost of living crisis.

Netflix is not alone in raising prices. Other streaming platforms, such as Multichoice’s Showmax, have also increased their subscription fees earlier this year. This led to public dissatisfaction.
