Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson has been hard at work on a project and the time to unveil has finally come. This June, her production – Heels and Sneakers will launch.

The series which features Yvonne Nelson, Nigerian actress Tana Adelana, Kweku Elliot and Jose Tolbert, will premiere at a special screening ceremony on Friday, June 24 at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra.

“Heels and Sneakers” also features new acts Jason El-Agha, Gifty Adrah, Mahalia Bamford, Fritz Johnson Solomon Owoo, Andrea Owusu, Matilda Owusu, Cyril Sackeyfio and Regina Van-Helve. Popular Ghanaian singer Pappy Kojo also plays a role in the series.

The drama series revolves around Pinto who traveled to Jamaica and got involved in drugs so had to run back home to seek refuge, and the only work he could do here is to sell vegetables to homes and restaurants; something he does riding a bicycle. This makes him well known in the community and as such prone to the repudiation from society because of his Rastafarian lifestyle. Apart from being into the vegetable business, Pinto, the lead character, also does music and hopes to climb back the ladder of success not through drug deals but through music.

A brand new cinema is coming to the southeastern region of Nigeria. To celebrate, some of the big Nollywood crew rolled out the red carpet for the big reveal. Movie makers from eastern Nigeria recently launched a special project to celebrate and share Igbo traditions with the world. The “Igbo Cinema and Culture Project” was officially announced last Saturday in Abakaliki, and everyone was excited about it.

Big names in Igbo entertainment, known for bringing their culture to life on screen, were super excited about this brand-new project and gave it a big thumbs up. The governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Francis Nwifuru, also thinks it’s a great idea. He says it will help people feel even prouder to be Igbo, and many others agree. The project is dedicated to using movies, music, and dances to showcase the unique culture of the Igbo people.

Ebonyi erupted in excitement thanks to a dazzling event. The whole state buzzed with anticipation, and the ceremony itself was a star-studded extravaganza. Nollywood legends like Pete Edochie, Patience Ozokwo, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and Chiwetalu Agu joined a bunch of other famous people to see the big reveal of this amazing new project. Even the governor himself joined in on the party, making it a total blast for everyone’s eyes, ears, and hearts. It was a big celebration of everything that showcased the heart and soul of Igbo traditions. It was also a real treat for everyone involved.

Actress Chacha Ike was there to capture all the excitement, sharing videos of everyone having a blast. Legendary Igbo actors like Pete Edochie, Patience Ozokwo, Kanayo O Kanayo, Chiwetalu Agu, Rachael Okonkwo, and Somadina were all there, lighting up the place with their smiles.

This Igbo cinema project might just be the next real hit. It’s like a big spotlight being shone on Igbo culture, and the pioneers are hoping it will bring people together and keep these traditions alive for generations to come.

Today, the legendary Nigerian singer, songwriter, journalist, actress, politician, and human rights activist, Onyeka Onwenu, is marking her 72nd birthday. But to call her simply a musician would not be enough. Onyeka Onwenu is a force and a voice that has resonated across generations.

Well known as the ‘Elegant Stallion,’ Onyeka hails from Arondizuogu, a small town in Ideato North, Imo State, and was raised in Port Harcourt. Onwenu’s musical journey began in 1981 while still with NTA, with the release of the album ‘For the Love of You.’ Her distinctive voice and traditional Igbo influences quickly captured hearts. Hit songs like “One Love,” “Dancing in the Sun,” and “Ekwe” made her even more prominent, not just in Nigeria but across Africa and beyond. She took Nigerian traditional music to a different level, using traditional musical instruments and folklore.

Onyeka Onwenu

She wrote and sang songs about issues like health, mutual coexistence, respect for women’s rights, and peace.

Her collaboration with King Sunny Ade, called ‘Wait for Me’ was a classic put together to help the government spread the message of family planning across the country.

In 1984, she wrote and presented the internationally acclaimed BBC/NTA documentary Nigeria, which became the definitive film about corruption in Nigeria and the intractable Niger Delta agitation for resource control.
