Nollywood actress Omotunde Adebowale David, known as Lolo1, has highlighted the growing trend of body modifications among men. She disclosed that this practice is more prevalent than many people realize.

The actress revealed this on a recent episode of her Say My Piece podcast. She emphasized that although women undergo body modifications more frequently, men are also engaging in body enhancements, albeit less openly.

She began by saying,

“Today we have a very interesting topic that we want to talk about and whether you like it or not, it has become the norm. I know a lot of times we say that women do body enhancements more, but let me shock you, men too are into body modification more.”

Lolo1 acknowledged that although body modifications are not yet as widely discussed in Africa, they are gaining momentum.

“Men do it a lot but we’re just not focusing on it in Africa just yet, I’m not saying it’s prevalent; I said women do it more. Even if we look at the indices among men, maybe a small 5 percent, but it’s being done now,” she explained.

Lolo1 also mentioned that cosmetic procedures like Botox are becoming more common among men. She pointed out specific procedures, such as subtle face lifts, as well as tightening of the chin and eye area.

She continued,

“I have seen some men that I’ve subtly done facelifts in Nigeria. Sometimes it’s the chin and around their eye to tighten the face a little. Men even take Botox, Charly Boy has come out to say that he takes Botox. That’s a cosmetic procedure too, to give you a youthful look. In the world outside Africa, men do body modification all the time, they give themselves biceps, lipo, fake abs. Do you know that some men do penis enlargement now?”

The tour by Asake rides the wave of success from his third album ‘Lungu Boy’. The album boasts a lineup of collaborations. The album features Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American powerhouse Travis Scott, and Brazilian sensation Ludmilla.

‘Lungu Boy’ shattered Spotify Nigeria records, amassing a staggering 18.9 million streams in its opening week. This feat surpassed the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s ‘Timeless’.

Asake now leads the pack for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria. Further, he outperformed industry giants Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, and Wizkid. He also claims the unique distinction of having two albums in the top 10. His sophomore effort ‘Work Of Art’ secured 8.3 million streams in its debut week.

The album’s global impact resonated strongly, setting a new benchmark for Nigerian albums on Spotify with 9.2 million streams on its opening day worldwide.

Kunle Remi Says Not Every Movie Is Cinema-Worthy | fab.ng

Kunle Remi is well-known for his role in the Netflix series “Anikulapo”. He recently expressed his views on what defines a movie as truly cinema-worthy.

In an interview with Hiptv News, the actor stated that many films labelled as cinematic don’t actually meet the standards of true cinema. He highlighted that both audiences and filmmakers often mistake TV-quality productions for cinematic films. This is without fully grasping the elements required to craft a genuine cinematic experience.

“Not everybody understands what cinema is. I don’t think a lot of people understand it in the first place, that is why you have a low-budget film put in the cinemas when it’s not even cinema-worthy. And you see people come for you. There is a difference between a cinematic film and a film for TV,” he said.

In the interview, Kunle mentioned that Kunle Afolayan, the director of “Anikulapo”, creates films with strong cinematic value. He added that Afolayan might not excel as a TV director if placed in that role.

“The moment Nigerians and filmmakers understand that we won’t be having this conversation. Kunle Afolayan for example, does cinema if you look at the quality of his project, the style and effort put into it are cinema. If he does TV films, he might not do so great because he is probably focused or trained to do cinema films,” he added.

Kunle Remi, as an actor, emphasized that he can often tell when a film has been rushed and poorly executed.

He pointed out that some filmmakers might label these films as cinema-worthy, but he can easily identify when they fail to meet that standard.

“TV films are maybe cable films or online TVs and you can tell this was done in 5 days. I’m an actor and I can tell. Sometimes I’m doing a film and they tell me, it’s for the cinemas and I laugh. I know I’m not supposed to but, it’s funny,” he said.

However, he clarified that he is not trying to discourage emerging filmmakers who are still learning the craft. Instead, he urged them to view constructive criticism as valuable feedback rather than taking it personally.

“I can’t discourage anyone cos it might be a starting point for some people do not be angry if people come for you or movie lovers share opinions of your film or critics talk about it cos you can’t then compare it to a Hollywood production,” he concluded.

Kunle Remi gained fame after winning the 7th edition of Gulder Ultimate Search in 2010. This marked the beginning of his acting career. Soon after his victory, he stepped into acting and has since appeared in numerous films. These films include “Ijakumo”, “Falling”, “A Naija Christmas”, “Introducing the Kujus”, and “The Prophetess”.
