In an interview on Way Up With Angela Yee, Simi addressed the controversy head-on. Instead of immediately explaining her reasoning behind the title, the award-winning singer opted for a strategic approach. She revealed her belief that the song itself would serve as the best explanation, allowing listeners to form their own interpretations upon hearing the full track.
“I honestly wasn’t going to go on an explaining spree at the time. I was like, when the song comes out, they will see what I’m trying to say,” Simi shared.
Simi also admitted that the online controversy actually helped build excitement for the song.
She went on to reveal that the song’s message wasn’t always as playful. Originally, Simi planned for a more blunt statement with just “Men Are Crazy.” However, Tiwa Savage’s verse softened the tone with the lyric “Men are crazy but I still want one in my bed.”
This marked the first-ever collaboration between the two Afrobeats queens, a significant moment for women in the genre. “Men Are Crazy” came after Simi’s February release, “All I Want,” and both tracks hint at her upcoming album.
The interview also touched on Simi’s husband, Adekunle Gold, who had recently defended her online during a disagreement with music producer Samklef.
