I Love Anything Afrobeats, I Love Burna Boy So Much – Shakira

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Shakira, the famous Colombian singer, dished out her love for African music, particularly Afrobeats. She described her musical style as a mix of many influences (eclectic), heartfelt (honest), and true to itself (real).

Shakira wasn’t shy about naming some of her favourite African artists. She gave a shoutout to Burna Boy and also mentioned her excitement about Tyla, a rising South African talent.

She said,

“If I could explain my taste in music in three words, I would say eclectic, honest and real.

I love anything Afrobeats. I like Tyla, I like Burna Boy, anything Afrobeats. But I love Burna so much.”

This isn’t the first time Shakira has shown appreciation for global music. Her career has been full of blending sounds from different cultures, so it makes sense that she would be drawn to the vibrant energy of Afrobeats.

Burna Boy is a heavyweight in the Afrobeats scene, known for his music style and energetic live shows. He’s been selling out stadiums worldwide and making history with his achievements. Tyla, on the other hand, is a new voice coming out of South Africa. Shakira’s acknowledgement of her potential shows that she has a keen eye for spotting rising talent.

BET has announced the exciting lineup for the 2024 BET Awards. Among the 2024 BET Awards performers are South African sensation Tyla, along with Ice Spice, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and YG Marley. These artists will bring their unique talents to the stage, adding to the already impressive roster of performers.

Previously confirmed artists for the show include GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, and Victoria Monét. Additionally, Tanner Adell is scheduled to perform on the BET Amplified stage.

Returning to host the event is the acclaimed Taraji P. Henson.

She is known as an Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actor, as well as her roles as an author, director, producer, and philanthropist. Her dynamic presence is expected to add a special touch to the ceremony. A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement BET Award to the legendary Usher, recognizing his immense contributions to the music industry over the years.

The 2024 BET Awards promises to be a spectacular celebration of black culture and entertainment. This year’s event honours the best in music, television, and film. It will also expand into a week-long series of festivities known as the BET Experience 2024.

Jesse Collins Entertainment will produce the show.

After the release of his 2023 album “I Told Them,” Burna Boy embarked on an extensive world tour that saw him perform to sold-out crowds in iconic venues across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. The tour showed his global appeal and also reinforced his status as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports.

Burna Boy’s record-breaking achievement in Canada was a significant milestone on this tour.

On June 13, 2024, Touring Data reported that Burna Boy grossed $5.7 million from his Canadian concerts. He sold a total of 69,219 tickets for six shows as part of his “I Told Them” tour, setting a new benchmark for African artists in the country. This record points out his extraordinary ability to attract and engage audiences far from his home continent.

Earlier in the tour, Burna Boy made history by becoming the first African artist to headline the Scotia Bank Arena in Canada. He achieved this remarkable feat by selling out the 19,000-capacity venue on two consecutive nights, February 24 and 25, 2024.

Burna Boy’s groundbreaking success on tour is a testament to his growing influence and leadership in the music industry. He continues to set new standards and break barriers for African artists worldwide.

Burna Boy also made a historic appearance at the Grammy Awards in 2024.
