The official theatrical release date for Mo Abudu‘s much anticipated directorial debut has been set, bringing two fascinating short films to Nigerian theatres soon.
For two thought-provoking films, “Her Perfect Life” and “Iyawo Mi” (My Wife), Abudu assumes the dual responsibilities of writer and director, which represents a crucial turning point in her career.
“Her Perfect Life” explores the life of Onajite Johnson Ibrahim, a lady whose outward appearance suggests that she has a perfect life. She appears to have it all at the age of 39: a flourishing job, a lucrative business, a supportive husband, and two lovely children. Though she puts on a beautiful front, she really just wants it all to end.
Pearl Thusi and Joseph Benjamin play the main characters in the movie, and Omawunmi Dada, Uzo Osimpka, Christian Paul, and Mary Lazarus play supporting roles.
The heartbreaking story of Kunle, a young married man living in the destitute downtown of Lagos, is told in “Iyawo Mi” (My Wife). When he gets home, he discovers his wife, Eniola, screaming at their kids and neighbours and issuing frightening threats. His night takes a horrific turn.
Adedimeji Lateef, Bolaji Ogunmola, Segun Arinze, and Jude Chukwuka all appear in the primarily Yoruba movie.
Both films centre on the idea of mental health, bringing to light the problems that are frequently taboo in Nigerian society.
When discussing the significance of these performances, Mo Abudu emphasised the necessity of treating mental health issues, which sadly are on the rise and affect individuals of all ages, races, socioeconomic levels, and social classes.
A talented team, comprising executive producers Mo Abudu, Bola Atta, Wale Tinubu, and Shola Akinlade, producers Heidi Uys, Inem King, Joshua Olaoluwa, and Sonia Nwosu, and director of photography Kabelo Thathe, worked on these two projects.
Many festivals, including Oscar-qualifying ones like the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Rhode Island Film Festival, and HollyShorts, have already given the short films recognition on a global scale.
On October 6, 2023, “Her Perfect Life” and “Iyawo Mi” (My Wife) will have their theatrical debuts at EbonyLife Cinemas, offering viewers an exciting and memorable movie experience.
