See How RMD Prepared For His Role in Editi Effiong’s “The Black Book”

Nollywood superstar Richard Mofe-Damijo, also known as RMD, recently spilled the beans on how he got ready for his forthcoming coming role in Editi Effiong‘s “The Black Book.”

In his post on Instagram he spoke about how he prepped for his role, his connection with the director Editi Effiong, how they met, and all the hard work he put in for his big part in this crime thriller. He wrote,

The Black Book!

What a journey it has been. Not done this for a while but let me give you some background so you can appreciate the film a lot more when it drops.

@nicho0le my daughter, says oh you need to meet my young friend who wants you in his movie. I agreed.

I met @editieffiong at a restaurant. Had lunch and he talked me through his film. I’m interested and I agree to do it. We shake hands and he says, “Baba you’ll need to loose some weight” wait did this young man just call me fat? Deep breath, and I go, “oh sure, if you will pay for it”! He agreed. We shake hands again and he goes “you need to be fitter physically sir. You need to hit the gym minimum 3 times a week for some months before we shoot” I’m looking at this young man and his audacity, about to protest but I look down at me and I knew he was right. I had sort of let go at the time and was precisely 120kg. We shook hands on it and this time I walked out and didn’t hear him say anything else.

Fast forward, I’m training with @uzikwendu with @denolagrey who had been given same matching orders too by Editi.

I confess that it was when I started training that I knew this wasn’t for just the film but my own life. I couldn’t do more than probably 2 or 4 press-ups. Weights? I was a mess.
Slowly but steadily my journey began.

Covid had kicked in. I kept hearing of the danger for folks over 50. I was 59. Hmmm, I kept saying to myself it wasn’t going to get me. None of my parents lived to be 60. The whole covid thing was already looking like a universal conspiracy against me and my desire to cross the 60 year mark. I ate healthy. Obeyed Uzi’s instructions like my life depended on it. Came to the gym every appointed day without fail.
Even had a Marine come in for weapons training and fight sequences. Take downs etc. I loved it all.
The weight came off finally and I found the character I was looking for. From single digit press-ups to 40 at a stretch. From doing 10kg dumbbells to 50kg or so. Uzi threw in some boxing too and before long I was ready. I could jump, fight, run, etc.

Then the shoot started… story for another day

Veteran Nollywood actor Bob Manuel Udokwu shared his insights on the casting of British actor Idris Elba as Okonkwo in the upcoming adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel, Things Fall Apart.

During his appearance on The Morning Brief, Udokwu participated in a dynamic discussion about the current state of Nollywood and the significance of collaboration within the film industry.

When asked about the missing element in Nigeria’s film sector, Udokwu responded,

“Collaboration. I said this years ago that Nollywood has come of age; now we don’t have to do much to prove to the world that we have world-class talent here.”

Udokwu directly addressed Elba’s casting as Okonkwo. Although he expressed respect for the British actor’s talent, he firmly stated his position. Subsequently, he emphasized that numerous capable Nigerian actors could effectively portray the role.

Finally, Udokwu pointed out that these local talents deserve consideration for such significant cultural roles. Moreover, he suggested that the casting choice overlooks the wealth of acting experience available within Nigeria’s borders.

He explained,

“There’s this conversation about Idris Elba being cast as Okonkwo in the Hollywood make of Things Fall Apart and I don’t have anything against that as an actor but I think that we have people who are top-class actors in Nigeria who can play that role better knowing where that story is coming from but that’s another story for another day.”

Bob Manuel Udokwu emphasized the importance of collaboration among different film industries, noting that this trend is already emerging.

“What Nollywood needs now is collaboration and it’s beginning to happen. I happen to be part of another production that involves to major actors in India and another Hollywood-based actress. We need to have more collaborations with our counterparts in Europe and north America and it’s happening gradually. The bundle of talents we have in Nigeria is awesome,” he concluded.

Stella’s detailed account came through a recent interview where she paints a picture of a three-year romantic relationship with the “City Boys” hitmaker. She describes how their relationship progressed to the point of pregnancy, emphasizing Burna Boy’s initial commitment to support their unborn child. According to her narrative, the singer’s attitude dramatically shifted, leading to his complete withdrawal from the situation.

The woman’s story takes an even darker turn as she recounts a series of unfortunate events. She describes a harrowing break-in at her residence, though she doesn’t directly attribute it to the singer. The accumulated stress from these circumstances, she claims, ultimately resulted in a devastating miscarriage of their unborn child.

Burna Boy responded to these allegations swiftly and unequivocally.

The African Giant, known for his unapologetic demeanour, categorically dismisses Stella’s claims. In stark contrast to her portrayal of their relationship, he characterizes her as a sex worker, specifically stating that he paid her 20,000 naira for her services.

The Grammy winner further discredits her by revealing that she belongs to a group of individuals who have previously made unfounded claims about his potency.

“Meanwhile this na of the first people wey call me impotent o. And Na 20k be her money that year normally of which I give am o. Abeg enter this comment section if you know this girl that year and confirm if I dey lie say na N20k be her money,” he wrote in a now-deleted post on his X page.

Toke Makinwa, a prominent Nigerian media personality, has recently used social media to highlight a problem that often arises in female friendships: the sharing of private information between friends and their romantic partners.

On October 9, 2024, this successful businesswoman took to Instagram to address her female fans, followers, and women in general. She emphasized the importance of exercising discretion and maintaining privacy within female friendships.

She began,

“I’ve got something very important to say but ladies, I’m going to eat you guys up on this video because it’s very important, so follow me as I go. My best friend contract is with you and I, not you plus your significant other. It breaks my heart to see many female friendships hit the rocks because of this mistake that a lot of us women make.”

“I understand that he’s your guy and you guys are best friends and he has to know everything that is going on but if you love your friends and you cherish your friendship, I believe protecting them should come second to none, including that man,” she explained.

“If your best friend confides in you about something that she’s going through or something that is happening in her life, maybe about guys, your husband or boyfriend should not be privy to that information. Why? Because he’s not her best friend,” she added.

She highlighted that when a friend shares personal struggles, such as relationship problems or life challenges, those details should be kept confidential.

Makinwa concluded,

“Sometimes you wonder why your man would have an issue when you tell him you’re going to hang out with a friend; it’s the things you tell him! The same way you protect your man and don’t air his dirty laundry to me is the same way you shouldn’t do me.”
